Margaret Tatcher finally dead, to greeve or t party?
M. H. Tatcher the woman who tore britan apart...
... the woman who brought britan togeder...
Obviously much contreversy about her. What do you think about how people should mark her death? Also was she a positive or a negative figur, what makes her so?

The fact that her funeral is £3,000,000 ($4,602,600) or something is pathetic. That is all.

Whether you didn't like her or not, shouldn't give someone the right to party over someone's death, that's pretty disrespectful.

This. You should never celebrate someone's death. It may not touch you, but there are people who grieve over this passing.

If she was anything like Reagan (which I've read she is) then she was a wonderful lady and I agree with much of her ideology. She also did a lot for women's rights. I

"Margaret Thatcher would have seen mass celebrations of her death as a “remarkable tribute”, a close friend said yesterday."

every politician done good and bad things. she done bad such as poll tax and the mines but sooo much good like united us and recaptured the Falklands from the Argentine invaders. no matter what your political opinion she was still the first woman prime minister and she was a mother and a gramother who died.

There is a big difference in celebrating someones life, and being happy they are dead.

It just highlights the strong class divide in this country, this was just a protest by people who are mainly anti-Tory and they felt that Margaret Thatcher embodied the idea of making the rich richer and poorer. I think domestically she was awful for Britain, she closed down all our industry, she stole Milk from children, she tried to introduce a completely unfair tax system and she made the divide between rich and poor greater. However on the International stage she was great, she got us a rebate from the Eu, she won the Falklands and helped win the cold war. I still think we should respect the fact that it was just her job, imagine being judged solely on your work performance

You're English and you don't know who she is -__-
She was the first and only (to date) female Prime Minister. But yeah apparently she's being paraded all around London so people can pay their respects.

I never said I don't know who she is, I'm well aware she was the first female prime minister and I'm well aware she saw England through the Falklands war and other things...
We need to show respect to her anyway

I think the OP meant that if we thought of Tatcher as a good or bad lady basically and you were favorable to un- to her,
I personally think she had to face a lot of adversity and showed true professionalism in her works to show she was qualified for her job

Her funeral is probably going to cost a lot more than that.
What sort of cost do you think would not be "pathetic"?

Well that's just the figure I've heard being thrown around. I have no idea but spending 3 million on a funeral, in my opinion, is more than a bit extravagant. We're spending millions on something that really doesn't have to cost that much and the money could be put to much better use. It's not just Margaret Thatcher I hold this opinion on, but every 'famous' person. Sure people want to commemorate their life but personally I deem it stupid that they're considered worthy of millions being spent on them even after death.

I agree it does sound a huge amount to you or me but in the scheme of spending it's a drop in the bucket.
She was a very significant figure in the UK - maybe the most significant since the last war - so I think she deserves a decent send off and it costs what it costs.
If we treat somebody of her stature like crap by doing her funeral on the cheap it doesn't make the country look very good.

Grieve.
She's on old woman, who's passed away, she doesn't deserve a funeral of violence.
How would you feel if your granny's funeral was stormed, with violence and riots and disrespect for the dead?

Not really. Considering Princess Diane's wedding was $48 million. Margaret thatcher was a huge part of history, in fact, I'm surprised the wedding wasn't more. The funeral was only $1.95 million, Michael Jackson's wedding was a little under that ($1 million) and she was a big part of political history, whereas Jackson was a big part of music history (Thatcher was a leading force for women rights win UK, so that has a bigger impact than music).

I think $48 million is ridiculous for a wedding. I also think £3 million is ridiculous for a funeral.
Don't you think the £50 million or whatever spent could of gone towards hospitals, research, charities?

What if they already do that?
They want to Commemorate that persons life. If you have the money, then you should be able to do whatever you want with it. Plus, she gave tons to charities. If I were a billionaire (like the royal family), I would spend at least $2 million on my wedding, at least. Sure, it could go to all that stuff, but it's not your money, and it's no place to judge.
It's like saying, instead of buying your MacBook Pro and iPhone, you should've spent that money on charity, you shouldn't have spent that Money on yourself. Because that's self fish. A family friend just spent $1 million on a freaking painting, sure, that could've went to those who need it, but that went to something my dads friend collects, which is art. Many billionaire already donates hundreds of millions of dollars, so why can't they give them selves something special like a $50 million wedding, or a Measly $4.5 million on a funeral of something who has helped millions of people.
Instead of buying yourself a car, you should just give it to charity. In fact, instead of buying yourself a house, just give all that money to charity. You can live off of a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment. Although personally, I agree that $50 million is to much on a wedding, I think it should've been $10 million or so. But security costs a lot, especially to protect the royal family,

Most of the funeral budget is paid by the government... So no, the government isn't giving the Thatchers millions, they're (government) spending it to create the funeral. In fact, the most recent figures are £10 million for her funeral. That's something like $15 million dollars. That could pay off 7000 households electricity bills, 25,000 houses water bills, about 300 teachers wages and 2 years of foreign aid to Iraq. Are these causes not better?
