i was immune to the croon, my friend buffoon's rough-hewn tune. but
today
i was caught short by a fraught thought:
would
a sting in the things he'd sing bring an
end
to my delusion, leaving confusion and a bruised conclusion that i was
better
to have stayed a liar about my aching desire, rather
than
bared my soul and become wholly controlled by stolen moments like
this?

yes, normally today would end better.
