Hi all I am new to this forum and I need help with dress code for upcoming prom.
I have never been to prom and know it is very formalized in north america (BTW I'm in Canada).
Mostly everyone usually rent a tux usually black with white dress shirt and tie/bow and dress pants with any shoes.
But I was wondering if I can wear dress pants with white dress shirt, and only a vest outside(should compliment my dates dress color correct?) no jacket, regular hightop shoes. And about bow tie vs tie, which one should i wear and should I also compliment my dates dress?
Also should I worry about anything else rather than asking my date out(in progress, can you give me advice on this thread http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2223955#post2223955 ) and enjoy prom?
And what is usually the prom layout i'd like to be aware what will happen.
Thanks very much!

For prom this year I plan on wearing a white vest, pants, and a black shirt with a white/black bow tie. And black shoes.
I posted a link, I'm wearing similar to this but with black shirt and what's stated above.

I probably wouldn't wear high top shoes, me personally at least. (D you mean like converse high top?).
And it is good to have something that's going to compliment your date. Tie or bow tie just depends on what you want to do.
AND if you want, let me know. I can send you the link to everything that I ordered for prom this year to give you an idea.

I think you can't go wrong with a navy blue suit, it stands out slightly from the black and white everyone else wears. But I think you could pull it off without needing the blazer, just go for a different coloured shirt such as blue or maroon if your not wearing a blazer because a white shirt and black trousers on there own may be a tad boring but it's really about what you think will look good to wear- it's your prom trust your gut. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions,
Anyways I decided to take on full black tux with a colored vest. I will probably not wearing blazer whole time so vest would make it work well.
I will wear full black tux, white dressed shirt, bow tie color that compliments my dates dress, vest maybe same color as bow or just black, belt same color as bow, and a black on black supra shoe.
Hope it works out well.
