There is an incredible amount of distributions of Linux available for suite just about everyone.

What is your favorite Linux distro and why?

Mine personally, is Ubuntu and Mint.
I like Ubuntu for a fully functional computer and Mint with Xfce is low on resources so I like to use that on a older PC.

All of the above. :p But my two favorite are Mint and Fedora, Ubuntu a close third.

I'll say Ubuntu. Personally I'm not going to say that some basic linux terminal-oriented system is my favourite because frankly, if you have a compromise of applications that are easily to install, a useable GUI and a humanistic interaction design, it's all that really matters.

Right now it's openSUSE, as it just works on my computer(you'd be amazed what a Pentium 4 can do when used right).
But since openSUSE is discontinuing the support for 11.4, and 12.1 didn't work last time I tried, I'm thinking of going to Arch when it's no longer supported at all. Many repositories have already shut down the 11.4 packages.

Fedora isn't bad, it's just the repositories aren't that great. And it updates too often, and I hate updating everything just because a new version of Fedora came out and now everything must be changed.

I don't trust Canonical, so I won't be using Ubuntu anytime soon.

Gentoo is simply confusing.

Most others I haven't gotten around to trying, yet.

To people who have used OpenSUSE: Good OS? I just love installing different distros just to get a taste of them all.. heck, tell me what OS to install besides Mint/Fedora/Ubuntu/any Ubuntu derivatives.

ubuntu, because it looks good and has a large user base.

OpenSuse is to Fedora is what Mint is to Ubuntu.

Slitaz, Studio 64, Arch-Linux, Puppy Linux, Gentoo and Slackware derivates.
============================================

I usually pick Mint, because it is the one I have used the longest on my older system. And I love Cinnamon.

Have used Fedora, and I have the same complaints. Too quick updates and hard installations.

Ubuntu is just... too easy and simple. Plus, it is hardware hungry.

I like OpenSUSE. But prefer Ubuntu. I LOVE SuseStudio, so cool!

I use Ubuntu on my web server, but Backtrack OS for my laptop (Google it - is is an OS designed for penetration testing and security tests (hacking and cracking tools))

I use it every day, and it works well. Plus, the nVidia GeForce drivers, as crappy as they may be, work on here and even have their own repository.
This is on a Pentium 4, with 3 Gigabytes of RAM.

I have only tried Mint and Ubuntu, and I can say Ubuntu runs better on my computer, so I give my vote to Ubuntu.

I'm a fan of Backtrack... but you should try Archtrack if you haven't already

I'm disappointed there wasn't a Arch Linux Option
