Since I was about 7 I thought it was exciting to show my privates to girls, is this normal? I want to ask my gf if she would like to see them but I am scared and nervous.

Well young children tend to like to "show off" but as a teenager, you shouldn't be so willing. Get close to and comfortable with your girlfriend. Then, only you know if she would want to. We have no idea of her personality, so we do not know.

Yes as stated -- playing doctor isn't uncommon. I agree that you need to give it time and try to discuss it when you sense that you both are open to it.
