View Full Version : Mom just DOES NOT GET IT!

I'm a brony, and a f***ing proud one too. (Not gay) I'm open about it to my friend and thats harmless enough. If im watching it on youtube or something and my sister sees me I don't care, she knows. If I (no matter what way) brought this up with my mom, I know FOR SURE (based on pass experiences) that she would not be a happy camper. One time I was watching a tone of youtube on my wii and when it was lunch my mom asked: What were you doing?
Me- Watching videos.
Mom- What kinda videos? (In a nice way)
Me- ...
Sister- My little pony!
Me- Ptth, what? Liar.
---Later---
Mom- You better not be watching that show. GROWN MEN watch it, I don't want you to be a part of it. (BTW, she probably forgot where called bronies)
Me- But im NOT! Jeez.
Mom- Don't jeez me
Me- Ok.
---End---
It's not like I want to openly tell her, I just feel that I've set a ticking time bomb that will someday explode with rage from my mom finding out some way or another. It's a mixed up situation and... and... whats your opinion?

I'm a brony too!! But I try and watch them on my iPad. Maybe you could use something like that (a handheld). Or just tell her. Sh probably watches weird stuff too.

You need to give us more than two hours to reply. This isn't the only topic on these boards.
If your mom doesn't like you watching My Little Pony, then don't watch it when she's around. If your sister is likely to tell your mom and cause a conflict, then don't watch it when she's around either.
It seems to me like you are expecting some sort of support from your mom and sister about watching this TV show and are upset because you're not getting it. Don't make such a big deal out of being a "brony." Pretty much every TV show in existence has people who like it (or else it wouldn't be produced). No fans of any other TV show give themselves silly titles or thinks they're part of a club. Let's say I like watching Bob the Builder. Do I call myself a Builder Bro? No!

What's so wrong with watching an entertaining little kids show?

Anybody can watch whatever they want to and others have no right to judge. I watch pewdiepie on youtube( horror gameplay, and other pretty mature movies) as well as Barbie and Tinkerbell movies. It's all my choice and what I feel like watching.

Don't make such a big deal out of the show. Like HunterSteele said, don't watch it when they are around. Simple enough. I think your mom means well, your not likely to get pass ridicule if you are walking around school rocking a my little pony shirt on or bro-hoofing other guys. In all honesty, my opinion is that you are asking for trouble.
I think your mom just wants to help you avoid being bullied (I mean, people get bullied for their sexual orientation, do you really think that you are gonna get away with watching a young girl's shoe (and I say young girl's shoe because that's who the show is aimed at)).

Who cares? I get you're a brony, but if you watch it and enjoy it, your mom should be the last of your worries. Parents sometimes don't want their kids to fall into some "weird" social group, and try to force anything out of them that will lead them to those groups.
If you ask me, just watch the show and don't give a fuck. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't try and convince her it's a good show or anything, it's not worth the time or effort.s

Bronys are different, theres like a millions of us; we need a title. Thats the title.

I cannot watch it on a mobile device because mine is broke.
My sister just always hangs around me and I cannot get her to stop and I do not want "support" from them. :/

If you don't want support then just watch it and tell them you don't care what they think. Tell your sister to leave you alone and then watch them yourself if you want to watch in private. Yoy seem to be creating a problem out of nothing here.

What do you mean im creating a problem out of nothing? I don't want my mom to know witch is hard because of my pesky sister.
I just tryed to tell her without any troubles, now every now and again she will kind of bring it up like in the story. ↑
So im not creating a problem!

No, they're not different. Like I said earlier, every TV show has "like a millions" of viewers. Less than that, the network wouldn't be able to charge enough for advertising and it wouldn't be worth airing.
Fans of other highly popular shows such as Storage Wars, Duck Dynasty, and The Walking Dead all like those shows very much, yet do not treat it like a cult. If you're not looking for your family's support, then what's the problem? My mom doesn't like me watching My Name is Earl. So I watch it quietly by myself, not making a scene or announcing to everyone that I am now watching it, and there's no problem.

Who said I was "announcing I am watching it"? And btw, saying that bronies are insignificant and shouldn't have a title is just plain stupid! A fucking show for 5 year old girls having a large male teen and adult fanbase. That fanbase has a title because its different from adult shows! God dam it!

Why does it matter? There are far worse things that you could be doing, she should be happy that you're so innocent.

By far worse, I didnt mean being a brony is bad. (Couldve reworded it better.) Just that watching MLP isn't hurting anyone.

Now you are picking at words to make it seem like to make it seem like we are attacking you when we are not. I never said you were announcing it. I said that I since my mom didn't like me watching a certain show, I watched it without drawing attention to myself or causing undue conflict and suggested you do the same. Then again, by posting a topic in an online forum saying you are a brony, you are essentially announcing it.
Your choices are this:
Proudly tell your mom you like the show and suffer the consequences
Don't tell your mom you like the show and watch it away from her and your sister
I suggest instead of watching my Little Pony you use the time to learn to type and use apostrophes, questions marks, and other punctuation.

You are right about that, non-broines never fully understand are obsession with a little girls show. I could right like 10 pages explaining it in full detail. :)

Most teenagers are prohibited from buying and going to things, sometimes for unfair reasons, it's called having parents. If you want to buy something that bad perhaps you should find a way to make your own money, until then, your parents don't have to buy you shit (aside from food and shelter) if they don't feel the need to. You still have the show, just watch the fucking show.

Its because you put "and a fucking proud one too" like its something major.
You watch a tv show thats aimed for kids but many people watch over the age its aimed for anyways, i don't see why you're "so proud of it"

I think that people were just trying to give advice and you were being a little too sensitive about it. Reading through the other posts I don't see anybody saying anything offensive. I agree that you should just watch the show when your mom's not around if it gets to her. There's nothing wrong with liking a TV show, but if it's causing problems with your family they don't really need to know about it.
Sasha M
August 5th, 2013, 10:13 PM
But she sort of knows about it and If she gets more Intel she's gonna be pissed.
Obsidian
August 5th, 2013, 10:15 PM
I don't get why she needs to know though. I understand you like the show a lot but why does that mean everyone needs to know? If it's going to cause problems with her it seems like it would make sense to keep it to yourself, at least around your family.
Sasha M
August 5th, 2013, 10:20 PM
Here is why. (Excuse my language) My sister is a little shit. If I'm trying to watch anything (Not just MLP) she might see it from behind or whatever. She has the power to use it agenst me if she pleases.
She did once. My mom got so pissed. She asked me if its true. I said of corse not. She told me all about why I shouldn't do this that I do but told her I dident.

I have nothing for that, wait until your old enough to do that without her. Those items and conventions will be there in 4 years time, I guarentee it. It's a long waiting time but unless you can find someone else to take you (Like going with a friend) you'll just have to wait.
