Known as the Iron Lady, she became Britain's first and only female Prime Minister!

Former Conservative prime minister Margaret Thatcher has died after suffering a stroke today.
Britain's first and only female political leader passed away peacefully aged 87, after suffering from poor health for more than a decade.
Her spokesman Lord Bell said: 'It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning'.
The Queen was sad to hear of Baroness Thatcher's death and Her Majesty will send a private message of sympathy to the family, Buckingham Palace said today.
Prime Minister David Cameron said: 'It was with great sadness that l learned of Lady Thatcher’s death. We've lost a great leader, a great Prime Minister and a great Briton'.

My facebook is full of this, everyone in Scotland hates her with a passion and are celebrating while I am lacking in fucks to give

Edit: I've just been told their is a party in George square (Glasgow city centre) celebrating her death. Personally I find it quite sick that people are going to that length.

she was a nasty lady who didnt care if people died on hunger strike and closed British mines without any remorse and would not listen to anybody as she always thought she knew better but had decent foreign policies. i didnt like her very much but may she rest in peace.

Completely agree. Except for the end, I don't really think she deserves that....

I didn't agree with her policies, but heck she knew how to lead the country in the Falkands islands. She won three elections something rarely done in British Politics. One thing you cannot deny is that she shaped Modern day Britain

Like what? She believed in small government, tax cuts, and low spending. From what I have read, she did tons of good. From what I have additionally read, I agree with Thatcherism.

Quite upsetting. She did good and she did bad, and actually I was shocked when I heard yesterday. I see a crapload of Facebook posts on my wall celebrating her death and it makes me quite sick. I see often being compared to Hitler and Stalin, that was worse.

Every Prime Minister does something good and something bad. The bad stuff are things they usually can't control. I think we should all just be grateful she managed to be the first female prime minister and do something for our country.

Well, I'm too young to know really if she was good or bad for the country, but who can deny that the country is now in good hands with CaMoron, Cleggy and Millipede? Viva the EUSSR!

I remember seeing on TV how the SAS did a drill where they burst into a room with her and two body guards inside. As they entered, the two guards passed out. When they were finished, Thatcher stood and said 'oh do get up boys'. Then she took the SAS lads for a pint!

RIP the Iron Lady.

my mom use to tell me about her and how much good. when I would read about her I was questioning what good by closing mines and things like that. but I had to see it from her POV and it made sense. R.I.P Iron Lady

to all the people celebrating her death: that's absolutely disgusting. so you may not agree with her politics but lifes too short to hold grudges. however she must have been doing something right: she won 3 elections on the trot and thanks to her the unions can no longer dictate policy and bring the country to a standstill as they did so many times during the 1970s. in 1979, all phones were owned by the post office which in turn was owned by the government and only the radio times was allowed to publish the tv schedule. ok not everything she did was perfect: she was only human (inequality did increase, the north is suffering for what she did, we're now facing a severe social housing crisis due to her right to buy policy as well as section 28, which banned the use of materials "promoting" homosexuality in schools). at the end of the day, the poor woman is dead. spare a thought for her family.

I actually found out about this because of the "#nowthatchersdead" hashtag. Haha.

It's always sad when someone like this dies, even if I don't believe what they believe or had anything to do with me or whatever. Glad she lived a long life.

You know, I don't actually know much about her, so really my opinion of her is neutral.

I am glad that she lived a long life. I believe that it is heartless to celebrate somebody's death. I personally believe that she had Britain's best intentions at heart. I have always wanted to be like her, made of iron. Growing up with my British grandfather, he would tell me to be like her, to be a strong and powerful woman. May she rest in peace.

She was 87 according to wikipedia so I don't see why we should feel bad for her, she lived a full life

She was well hated in Scotland, and really only remembered for the bad things (miners and poll tax in particular) up here. Even winning 3 elections, if you look at the results each time, England was generally blue (tory) and Scotland red (Labour) to the extent that 2 decades later after the last general election (leading to the current con/ lib dem goverment), there was still only one Tory seat in Scotland.
That said, it was a long time ago, and even I can't feel good over the death of an 87 year old - there's just some lines people shouldn't cross!

She did not herself close the mines, she broke the unions which had driven to UK to a standstill. It was the unions that closed the mines.

Personally, I think she was one of the greatest leaders this country has ever had and her death does not deserve celebration. None of the 'leaders' we have now would have taken such a hard and decisive line in such a situation, or would have gone to war in the Falklands.

I didn't like the women. Yet what some of the things people have said is a bit over the top. Death is still death

I hardly celebrated her death however I can't say I didn't smile a bit. I can understand how her decisions would make sense from certain people's perspectives, however from a Blue collar English family she did a lot more bad than good. I hope she spends eternity living out the consequences from the decisions she made.
