View Full Version : Kind of awkward question...

I'm not sure if it's even ok to ask this here, but I'm at a complete loss....I'm almost 19, and I've been with the same partner for almost 4 1/2 years now.....he's always had an extremely high sex-drive, and being 2 years my senior, I chalked it up to be normal male libido.....
However, in the past month or so, I've been almost insatiable. I won't go into detail, however right after we finish, I always want more. The problem is, it's not just when I'm around him, but when I'm at home alone as well....I just can't seem to ever satisfy the need, and it's starting to really affect our relationship......I've been too nervous to talk to a gynecologist about it, but is this something that I should be worried about.....? Do I just have a strangely high libido that's only started to kick in now, and if so, is there anything I can do to help calm it down?
I know the obvious answer seems like "self-gratification", but when you've had the "urge" for about a month straight, it starts to hurt!

Well first how is it hurting your relationship

its probably just hormones
I wouldn't let it worry you

He's starting to think that he just can't satisfy me anymore, and he's not exactly a man with good self-confidence as it is....So while he's thinking he's somehow defective, or lost the, er, "magic" he had before, I'm essentially thinking the same thing about myself......
I should probably also add that I used to have a low libido when we first started seeing each other intimately....And I mean low as in once a week and I was good.

I think it's hormones. Puberty affects everyone differently. I mean sure I'm in the prime of it at 15, but that doesn't mean an 18 going on 19 year old can't.

I was more worried because it came on so suddenly....One day I have the same libido I've had for the better part of my life, and then, overnight, it skyrockets out of control? It just seems a little odd to me to be simply hormones....
Also, extremely off-topic, but I had to say that I love your signature :D

Was anything in your life different between the day it was the way it had been and the day it exploded?

Not that I can think of.....We brought up the prospect of marrying and having kids, but that was about 3 or 4 weeks before that. I spent the night at his place the night before it exploded, and when I woke up, it was almost like I'd always been that way.....Eventually he just turned on a movie, took me in his arms, and brought up a serious conversation to try and distract me.......it took my mind off of it enough to take the edge off, but the discomfort was still there...

Oh, haha thanks. :) I am still thinking it's hormones. I mean literally the same thing happened to me when I was 13 over the course of 2 days. I mean one night, I was thinking it wouldn't be such a bad thing. THe night after that.... I was out of control. I still think it's hormones. If you are still unsure, I think you should talk to a doctor of some sort. I mean they deal with so many people, that it's totally normal for them. WHatever you tell them, they have almost 100 percent heard before. In the rare case that they haven't, their 5+ years of medical schooling taught them a thing or two.

You're quite welcome.
I know that hormones do really crazy things to any body, and I've been racking my brains to try and think of anything I've done that could have made such a drastic change, but I suppose that's an answer for a professional at this point  The doctors here are 3-5 month waits, and I can't imagine being in this state for that long. I think I'd go insane.

It might be like a delayed thing from the talk about marriage and kids. It might be a good idea to talk to your doctor about it, too. Sometimes a sudden change in hormone levels can be caused by an more serious health problem. Better to be safe than sorry.

Honestly, I think this is quite normal. You're a human being - you want sex, and you just happen to want it a lot. Different people have different sex drives, and it seems that you simply want it more.
As for how it's affecting your relationship. Is he satisfying you? I know you said that as soon as you finish, you want it again. Could that be because he didn't manage to leave you satisfied? If he is leaving you satisfied, then explain to him that you're just a person wants a lot of sex. That's really all it is.

I figured as much, but I wanted to get other opinions first.....I have a slight tendency to over think any problem my body has.

Oh he definitely satisfies me, there's no question about that
But to want it 24/7, and not even be able to satisfy myself?

I'm the same. I always try to figure out what's wrong...or at least what could be...before I go to the doctor. You have a really long wait to get in to see a doctor. An endocrinologist would be the doctor to see. Is it possible that might be a shorter wait?

How long have you been feeling this way, exactly? Have you had any changes to your diet during that time?
If you're feeling this way literally all the time, it may be caused by some sort of hormonal imbalance or something. As embarrassing as it may be, it might be worth a trip to the doctor to just talk things through and give yourself a bit of piece of mind. :P

I live in a tiny town of barely 6000 people, and I have absolutely no clue what the wait would be in the city....On top of that, unless I completely missed something, I think it's required that a doctor examine you and refer you to a specialist before you can see one :( At least, that's the way it is here. You can't even get a therapist appointment without a doctor's referral. :(

The only change I can think of happened only about a week or two ago, and that was when I quit smoking. :whoops:
And the only problem with seeing my doctor is that he's anywhere from a 3-5 month wait, and only in the office 2-3 days a week. I understand that we can't overwork our doctors, but it seems a little ridiculous to me

That stinks. Hopefully they will expedite you. Please get in as soon as you can. I hope its nothing, bit in the event it is, it's best to catch it soon. At least you have a plan that you can tell your boyfriend to help him, hopefully, to feel better. Have you tried mental math to get your mind off it? Never underestimate the power of math to calm down libido, hahaha. Good luck to you!

Mental math I completely suck at, but trigonometry and lengthy algebraic equations do wonders for me

That's really too bad. I guess you should just maybe spend more timenwith him. Keep in mind that this is coming from a 15 year old with a limited experience with this stuff.

I've tried that, but it's gotten to the point of getting raw, and the urge is there 24/7, no matter how many times I give in to it. :(

There's no way I'm pregnant. We use multiple forms of protection, and we're extremely careful.

Just a thought and the easiest thing to check. Everything else seems to be either psychological or related to increased testosterone (it controls libido in males and females) from an adrenal disorder of some kind.

It's happened before; I was really concerned and wrote down all these symptoms that I was having, took them to my doctor, had sugar in my urine but not my blood, and instead of taking more tests, he put me on an anti-biotic and told me it was nothing but a simple infection.....when they rushed me to the hospital because of the level of sugar in my urine.

I'm going to go to my doctor's tomorrow and sternly request a referral, and if I don't get one, I'm going to call one of the hospitals in the city that's supposed to have an excellent endocrinology department. It's just so dang frustrating sometimes that everything seems to take forever to diagnose :(

This is not a awkward question at all. In my experience this could just be explained as hormones or just a sexual addiction. It could be psychologically you crave pleasuring someone ,and your body doesn't want to stop. Maybe your mind is trying to get you to orgasm multiple times.
