So I know that I'm gonna need a new guitar sometime soon. I've been thinking about the Yamaha FG700S. Can anybody tell me if that's a good guitar? I've read lots of positive reviews but I want to be sure.
If this helps, my current guitar is my dad's old one that will probably fall apart at some point in the near-ish future. It's a classical guitar but my style is more rock-oriented.

Well, how good of a musician are you? What genre do you play?

How good doesn't influence what type of guitar he should get. What should influence is your drive to be a guitarist. Are you doing this simply as a hobby that you could drop any moment, or is this a passion of yours that you care deeply for? If you care deeply for it, save up for a nicer acoustic. I know you want a new guitar now, everyone does. But it'd be better to save up and get a really nice guitar that you really want. I saved up for five years using a shitty Yamaha Pacifica so I could eventually afford a Fender Stratocaster. And let me tell you, it was well worth it. I am so much happier with that decision than if I had just grabbed a random $400 guitar when I had the money for that.

Believe me, i'd love to get a Stratocaster. but my mom would never allow it. She says I'd be making too much noise, even though I could plug headphones into the amp. I doubt telling her this will change her opinion. :'( Anyways, I'm pretty devoted to practicing guitar. Practice every day.
