View Full Version : Thread Locking Reporting Notification

Here is something that I thought of after I reported a thread yesterday and I was wondering if the mods locked it or not, but I couldn't remember where to find it. Perhaps there could be some notification system or that mods send personal messages to those who reported the locked thread because it is a good feeling to know that I contributed to the well-being of this site.
Just a thought, but let me know what your opinions are on it. :)

I don't really see much point of it. For a lot of users, if we report regularly, it would be annoying seeing a post saying what happened. Besides, once we're done our job to report it, it's the moderators job from thereon, we don't need to know what happens since it's not really our business. Besides, this may not even be possible as you require plugins for vBulletin, and a plugin as such may not have been made.

Not needed; most of the time it does get locked. Don't see any point in getting told if it does or not.

Its a nice thought. However I don't think we can make an automated system that would tell you if the thread was locked and doing it manually would take so much time that could be spent doing other moderation work or posting etc.
If it doesn't get locked then you should assume it was okay. If it does get locked you can look and see what the moderator locked it for.

I've never heard of this or seen it on any site. I doubt that such a modification exists, and if it does is it really worth potentially breaching site security for? Any time an add-on or modification is added from a third party source there is a moderate risk of it opening the site up to security issues -- that's why we don't add every modification we see.

You shouldn't need a pat on the back for reporting a post.

Just the fact that you report it should make you feel good, no? Otherwise, bookmark the offending page or posts, and check back periodically.
Think of it this way: not even your popular social networks do this, as there is no time or need for it.

It's not really fair on the mods, though. They already go out of their way to keep the site safe. We shouldn't expect them to notify everyone who reports a thread on the outcome of said thread.

Well I mean I'll see those annoying bot posts with lik "asdfghjkl" as a name, and just report it casually. It'd be sorta annoying to get a PM every time a thread is locked.

First of all, the response to a report isn't always locking a thread.
I don't think an automated notification every single time a report is read and responded to is necessary. But I think an occasional manual PM from a staff member saying, "We saw your report and took action. Thanks!" would be nice. I realize they read and act on a lot of reports every day, so sending even the occasional PM would be extra work for them. Still, it would be nice to receive some positive messages from the staff, since (unless you message them first to start a conversation) otherwise the messages they send out are almost always to reprimand members for breaking the rules.
