You've just opened your skin up to a wound, it's trying to close as quickly as possible and so your skin starts to tighten. That's what makes it itch, the closing/healing process. If you're talking about old cuts/cuts that are scarring, it's the scabbing process that happens. I don't think anyone that self harms has never gotten the itchy moment, it's literally a part of self harm and you get used to that. Depending on how much it's itching and if it's painful can be a sign of infection, but you know that already. Use Aloe Vera where it's itchy, it can be found in after sun products and it's a natural cooling agent so that should help. Just make sure all wound are clean, that can also help.

Don't touch them or wear irritating clothing.

Wounds typically itch when they are healing. If they itch when you do it, or before the healing process starts, then I don't know what to tell you.
