View Full Version : Hypochondria

Okay so, i have hypochondria. For those who don't know what it is, it's like a medical anxiety. For an example, if you were to scrape your knee on the side walk skateboarding or something, you would probably go clean it and put a bandaid on it. For a hypochondriac, they would freak out and worry about infections, they would not even think about anything else until they got it cleaned and bandaged. Also, for sickness, if someone were to get sick, they would lay in bed, watch tv, take some medicine, and wait for the cold to be over. For a hypochondriac, they would obsess over the cold. Stay in bed, constantly feel as though they need to take more medication, and will even panic if the cold lasted a little longer than usual. Another thing hypochondriacs do, which seems really weird, is that if someone says that something on their body hurts, the hypochondriac will suddenly "feel" the pain without actually having nothing happen to them. So, what i want to know is who is a hypochondriac on here? I'm tired of feeling like the only one with it.

I haven't been diagnosed, but I think I have it. My dad gets sick of the constant doctor appointments. If I have one symptom to a disease or illness I immediately freak out. I always think I am sick, etc.
So yeah, I might not have it, but I know how you feel.
If you ever want to talk you can contact me. Good luck.

I think I MIGHT have it, but am undiagnosed. I consistently go insane over nothing to most people, like a few months back when I had a cold, and stayed in bed, hallucinating on meds because I thought I was dying. It's annoying to overreact, but I get by.

Yea, i feel the exact same way. I wish my mom got sick of doctors appointments only because i wish I went more often. My mom doesn't like going to the doctors and believes in home made remedies and i don't, lol. Ok so for about an hour now my feet have been swollen and itching really bad( like an "i wish I could cut my feet off right now" kind of bad). So instead of going to the doctors and seeing if it is leading to a bigger problem, my mom has me soaking my feet in vinegar and salt in my bath tub right now(which smells horrible and she found this remedy on the Internet). So I'm kind of freaking out on the inside because my feet are seeming to get worse and not better(but thats probably my hypochondria, lol)

What the he'll is she doing that for? I don't want to bash your mom, but what on Earth could have possibly made her believe that vinegar would calm it?

Yea i get by too. My hypochondria hasn't like taken over my life or anything. Although i am a lot more cautious when doing certain things because of it. It's weird, it seems like i kind of have a phobia of falling, lol. But yea, i don't like roller coasters for the fear of falling off( lol i know, it's weird), i don't like stairs because I'm afraid of breaking something if i fell(although my house has stairs + my school has an overwhelming amount of stairs).

I hear you about falling. It took me maybe 5 years after I first realized I could hurt myself(age 3 or so) to even understand the stairs wouldn't eat me. And now I don't go any where high, even in elevators going up past 81'7", as I fear that I will fall and die.

Lol, the Internet made her believe! I feel the same way right now, lol, but in didn't want to say anything because well 1- she probably would have used her authoritative power and just make me do it and 2- i know shes just trying to help. My mom is obsessed with anything natural or organic. She had me make a makeup remover out of olive oil, baby shampoo, and water.

Gosh, I'm glad someone else feels the same way! Lol. Don't you hate elevators that you can see through? Those are horrible to me.

They are the worst. Especially when you pass the 4th floor, then everything looks like a ten-mile fall...

Lol you won't guess what my mom is making me do now. Okay so, i told my mom that the vinegar and salt just wasn't working, so she filled some socks up with corn starch and told me to put them on(again something she found out about on the Internet).

Yes, exactly! Lol. i don't even know why people made those. Do you hate roller coasters? Or do you like them?

I'm pretty sure i am a hypochondriac, but with me the main thing is Cancer. I literally feel like i am dying 24/7 even know i feel i am dying. I lay awake at night thinking about getting told i have cancer and my funeral etc. I am too scared to go to the doctor, even for a cold because i'm scared i'll get diagnosed with something alot worse, when i even see the word written on the internet or someone dying of cancer in a tv show i become extremely anxious and scared. I convince myself i have all the symptoms its terrible and i do not know what i am going to do if i am being honest..

I know how you feel. I don't specifically think about cancer most of the time. I have thought that before because there seems to be so many reasons someone can get it but I don't usually worry mainly about cancer but i always think something's wrong lol.
