How bad is it for you not to sleep? I am really terrified to go to sleep. I know something will happen if I do. I only feel comfortable sleeping when other people are awake. So I was wondering. If I just reverse my sleeping and go to bed when I get home from school, how bad could it be? Do you think it would be worth it?

Sleep deprivation is horrible. It has affect on your memory, your decision making, how you process ideas and many other parts of your mind. But as long as you are getting some sort of sleep (my minimum is 8 hours, but doctors suggest a minimum of 10) then you should be fine.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you afraid of sleeping with no around or awake?

I'm not really sure, but I think it might be because when I was a toddler and I moved in with my dad, I was so used to having my mom around that I was completely traumatized. I would wake up in the middle of the night crying for my mom, and I still have nightmares about my parents beating me or abandoning me somewhere. That and the fact that there is some kind of ghost or demon in my house. Or I could just be crazy, but I swear it whispers to me and scares me on purpose. It will build suspense, then it will scare the shit out of me. I have always been extremely paranoid when everyone is sleeping. And if I am also sleeping, anything could happen.
Sorry if I sound like a psychopath:whoops:

What you're doing isn't exactly depriving yourself of sleep long term, you're just more trying to change your sleep pattern to sleep once you come in from School rather than at night. If you still make sure you get around 6-8 hours each sleep period you should be okay.

Sleep deprivation is terrible, no sleep leads to the ability to not concentrate or think properly and can have a wide variety of negatives.

My advice would be to seek help at the heart of the problem like you described in the above post. Talk to someone because if you don't then the problem will only get worse as time progresses.

Okay, the past 4 days I have had a total of 15 hours of sleep. Is that bad? Should I tell my parents or wait and see if I can sleep right tonight?

I wouldn't wait. Waiting is only going to prolong the problem.

At one point, I had a sleep cycle where I was going to sleep around 7am and waking up around 3pm, sometimes later. It was nice except it ruined any real chance at hanging out with people during the day and when I had to be up for something at say 10 or 11am, I was running on basically no sleep, if any. I could see you running into that problem if you sleep in the afternoons all the time.

I suppose theoretically, as long as you get sleep, as long as it's in one chunk (as in not like 3-6 and then 4-9), it's alright, but ideally you'll want to sleep at night. I would do as Derri said and seek some help. Be it for the not sleeping problem or the root problem of why you're afraid to sleep, or both (ideally).

Good luck, & feel free to drop me a PM if you ever need anything. :)

Well, I survive with around 20 to 23 hours of sleep per week, so yea. I know that is bad. but my body works with it. That is why i just sleep during the weekends so i get back that time. But one negative thing about it is that my sleep pattern's are messed up.

Your body has an internal clock , also called a circadian rhythm, if I remember correctly. It is very unwise and un-healthy to change that. It can delevop into more serious matters ,such as insomnia.

SOURE: When I first got my job at the fire department I did exactly as you said. I slept right when I got home from school and went to work and slept there. Now, I have medically diagonosed clinical insomnia.

Sleep deprivation is very risky. Have you considered going to a sleep specialist?
