View Full Version : An invisible rep system

So instead of having a competition maybe there can be an invisible rep system. So it's not visible to anyone except those who give and receive. The way there's no competition. So like you can either leave constructive advice or you can leave a nice little comment
Also, its not where it has points, but prints rather just comments.

But people are still going to abuse it and people are still going to complain about it. And people would still share their numbers. It would be just as bad as the old system. So I say no. We're gonna go repless for the time being, it's what's best for everyone.

Exactly this. It's gone, and VT is better without it.

Did you even Read what I said or did you just read the title?

I still say no because people are still going to share, and just overall, we're better off without a system. It's not needed. If you wanna leave a comment for someone about something they said, VM or PM them. It's not that hard, lol.

That might not even be possible with the vBulletin rep system, though.

If someone really believes that they have helped someone else, then they will have a good conscience about it. That's good enough for me. I don't need a number or block to use as an ego stroke.
If someone wants to send a "thank you" message through pm, then that's their choice.
Do it to be a good person, not self-glorification.

Right. It was removed for a reason.

Rep died because it was inflated and stupid. It didn't reflect what it once was. ANY idea of a "reputation" system that can be exploited on a help site is pointless. Invisible or not, it's pointless. The only adequate replacement is a like system and even that isn't really needed.

Oh my god. No one is getting what I'm saying.
My idea, was a way to provide constructive criticism or to say a thank you without going though the hassles of pm or what not. My idea was to not have a point system or any shit like that. No one else sees anything. The only thing you see is a thank you or constructive criticism to help the poster. No one sees shit. So no ego booster, or nothing to make someone feeling inferior

If you want to give "Constructive Criticism" as you say, you can say it to their face, so to speak with a PM. It isn't that much of a hassle, unless you're cramming your opinion down someone's throats through many PMs.

This is not what you said in the title. You wanted an invisible rep system, not a constructive criticism thing. Think. Why do you even need to be thanked for a helpful post? So you can be a bit prouder. In any case, I would just trust the staff from here, because they clearly know what they're doing with this.

Why do we need it?!?! There really is no use, and so many people abuse the rep system by giving stupid reasons why they got neg repped. I got neg repped because my advice about acne products over the counter or the doctor could be useful for people, but the person who neg repped me made a stupid comment saying it doesn't always work on people. Just stuff like that is abusing it, and there's way too many complaints about it.

People have been proposing a stupid "Like" system like Facebook, and maybe people think they could say something a little better.

I think we should leave the past in the past.
The Staff attempted to trust us with rep, and we abused it. We must move on from it, and start posting well and helping others because we want to, and not because we get a reward.

Again, we shouldn't really badger the staff for a new system because at this point it is a done deal.

This. And, if you really feel the need to have self satisfaction, pat yourself on the back. Eat a piece of chocolate, for every bit of helpful advice you've given.

Not everyone gives good advice, but maybe someone thought that bad advise giver needed some constructive advice to help him. That was all I was proposing. That's it.

There was a reason for it to be taken down. The reason was made a long time ago, but never really dealt. So putting up another rep system like this is just like we never even taken down the rep system in the first place. Too many people abused it, too many people always complained about it, so now that it's gone, we don't have to worry about any people complaining about it's being abused, it lets Mikey and Ronnie breath a little from so many complaints about stupid neg reps. Sorry if you don't like the idea of it gone, but it's best for the whole site.

Why simplify an already existing system? If you're too lazy to PM I doubt you're willing to type out any real, substantial "constructive criticism." Seriously, PMing is sufficient. VERY sufficient.

The rep system was what made this not the best site on the internet in my opnion. I don't want to be reminded that it was ever here. Best part is that no one can neg rep me for this reply!! :P

Why are you acting like this?
First off, calm down the attitude in this thread. It's totally uncalled for and nobody appreciates it. Secondly, we're better off without a system like that. Why do we need to have a comment system? It's just another headache that I can already see brewing. A lot of people abused reputation comments to begin with and posted a lot of nasty, childish things to other members. I can already see it now! Instead of "Hey can you remove this rep for me?" We'll be getting PMs that say "Hey can you remove this nasty comment for me?"
I think it's a pointless system and nothing good would arise from it. You can say it will be "constructive advice" all you want, but it's pretty much been proven that you can't handle having a points system, so what would make this any nicer sounding?
