It's not something I rejoice over, I really liked the rep system. I don't know if my Rep is out of control (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=159751) thread influenced this decision, I received some pretty unflattering responses to that, but honestly if anyone has +800/-400 rep points, however brilliant a member they are, it's too much influence and as I said in that thread, if someone gets hit with -400 (not that I'm accusing anyone of that) if could take them years to recover.

So I'm sad it's gone. The problem with rep, and it happens on gov too but less so, is that you can get a group of friends who just constantly rep each other, and that is how it spirals out of control.

To compare with gov, I have 14K posts there and my rep power is 78, that ranks me 8th highest rep. My 14K posts ranks me 55th compared to here where my 8.4K posts rank me 8th.

So I guess our parameters on gov are set more strictly, I think there are only one or two users with rep power above 100, and no one above 200, and our highest repper has over 48K posts (yes, that's no typo, 48K posts).

Maybe a year or 18 months ago someone should have realised it was getting out of hand here on vt and reigned it in. But hey, too late now.

Thank you. That is really helpful, Mike. I found that some of the neg rep I got was fair, but man were some of the messages with it mean! You are right when you say this is not like govteen or... Teenhut. Teenhut in my opinion, is awful. that site is homophobic AND racist sometimes.... Thanks for the great post, man. :)

I only came back on site because a gov member had a problem registering on vt and asked if I could help. I PMd Mike about his, he can back me up (although hasn't replied to the question?).

I loved vt while I was more active here, I gave a lot to it and helped a lot of people, it hurts when all I get is abuse.

You know what Nick you're a lovely person but your biggest regret is that your social skills are lacking: the fact that you do not understand the response to your social actions should affirm this. You always sound like you're whining and complaining and pitying yourself instead of writing substance; if you write with confidence and with a positive viewpoint (even if you have negative feelings about the issue at hand) then you will be received better I am sure. Your post isn't objective in that it doesn't give a solution; I think a reason why GovTeen has such low rep inflation is that its community is so harsh and unfriendly that everyone just -reps each other or gives none out because they are so self righteous and obsessed, but that is my view.

Regardless, while I disagreed with it, the rep is gone now and hanging onto it when neither of us are even active here seems a bit foolish.

Why is this even a thing still?

We're on a website. It's not as if they decided to get rid of a main highway, or the Brooklyn Bridge. Rep was not integral to the running of the site, so it is not a necessity. We can still post, we can still use the chat room. We can leave Visitor Message and PMs. So it would be fine and dandy if we could all get on with our lives. Moaning and bitching isn't going to get it back. Just be thankful that you have a forum at all. We all should be thankful and respect Maverick for paying for the site for us. All this bitching is disrespecting him, and I think we ALL should be thankful for what we have, because it could easily be taken away.
