I have to write a short paper for econ...the title has to be a question. I just need opinions on the question I chose.

Do warning labels on cigarette boxes reduce the number of cigarette purchases?

If you can think of a better one, please suggest some...

How short do you mean by short? I mean, if you wanted to make it short you could ask the question;

"What effect does government intervention have on demerit goods such as cigarettes?"

The warning label one is good though, you can talk about shifts in demand as it's advertising, as well as the fact that warning labels are indeed a form of government intervention.

The question you're posing has more to do with marketing than economics. You're asking whether a change in packaging will affect consumer demand. Either way, I think you can find some statistics about cigarette consumption through academic studies and compare it to the years when health labels weren't yet implemented :).

I just need to use the economic principles, like cost/benefit principle, to answer the question...
