PC not booting?

I got a Dell 4600 and I can't get it to boot anything other than my windows installation CD and my crunchbang Live CD.

Also when I try and use the CDs to install an OS I get an error stating that there was either an error accessing the external hard drive i'm using or there was an error writing to disk.

I am also unable to boot from my flashdrive that is currently holding my crunchbang installation

I've fixed the issue, turns out my CD drive was being really temper-mental with Plop, could a moderator please lock this?
