Before I begin, I am going to clarify that I will be a neutral 3rd party in this argument. If anyone is offended, I'm deeply sorry, but in the spirit of debate, this must be addressed.

Should the Federal Government be involved with Social Issues, such as the Gay Rights movement. Should the Supreme Court be arguing over this issue, instead of letting the people vote on what they would prefer? Would their involvement be a success, such as during the African American Rights movement, or would it be a case of too much "Big Brother" Government.

Ready? Fight(Or Debate, either way) to the death(Or until we get bored :P)

The government has to get involved. It's a matter of Constitutionality, and that requires that SCOTUS be the deciding body. If the government had kept it's nose out of the people's private lives all along, it would be different. But they didn't. If people were happy and satisfied to live and let live, it wouldn't be necessary. But, people aren't. They seem to insist that everyone else live by the standards they choose. As to letting the people vote, on a state by state basis, that's fine, but on the federal level it has to be SCOTUS.

the government gets involved in anything
they have to approve certain functionings and stuff like pride parades etc different events like that.
without the government in control our world and countries would be a mess, at war, and there would be death everywhere
so to a point as shitty as the Govt can sometimes be i am glad they are there to keep everything under control

I feel the government should be involved in anything that affects society! If a large section of society is bigoted I feel the government should be involved. Anything bigoted should be challenged but then again protesters dont feel as though they are bigoted. I honestly dont know!

The government's job is to protect it's citizens' rights. I feel that gay marriage is an issue of rights and equality, so yes, I think they should be getting involved.

The Government should and will inevitably get involved with social issuse. A goernment is to guide and protect the people whom they govern. Some people that gay marriage was a "threat" to this country and therefore brought their case before the highest court in the land. All governments must be involved socially with their constituents, so they can know what they want. What ever the court's rule maybe, it was for and by the will of the greater people, and therefore the greater good.

The government's job is to protect the social and civil rights of its citizens. So, yes it should get involved in social issues.
