So in the edit section of a group there are three options, moderated, public, invite only. What does the moderated option mean? Does that mean a mod moderates it?

I think so. Or they can moniter it and members who are posting in there so they can take action if someone is being inappropriate.

It means that the owner of the group can allow or deny users to be a member of their group. When a member tries to join, the owner will have to either allow, or deny it.
Keep in mind all groups are monitored by moderators, and global mods/admins can moderate (i.e. add/remove) all groups.

Well I knew groups were moderated I just thought that if the option moderated meant that it had extra modding by mods
