Hey all,
To start off I'll share a little bit about myself. I'm a freshmen in high school, 15 years old and I'm straight. I come from a family that isn't very sports oriented, my brothers are into movies and video games mostly with sports being in the minority. My dad isn't interested in sports at all. I quite simply don't come from a sportsy family. I know this has nothing to do with how manly I am or my sexuality, but for some reason people connect it with being gay. This really irritates me because as I said, I'm straight, and I hate when people assume I'm gay because I don't follow sports.
I'm not a feminine type of guy, I have friends that are girls but I don't do "girl" talk. I don't gossip with them and I can't handle listening to them talk about how hot other guys are. I would much rather huddle around the TV with the guys and watch some football. However, on my own, I'd much rather play some video games instead. I have guy friends, just not as many as I'd like and I feel like some guys don't know what to talk about besides sports. So what I'd like to do is get more involved with sports! I'm not very athletic at all, but I do enjoy sports! I think they're fun and I like watching them as well, I just don't prefer them or care enough about them to follow them like some dudes do. I tend to get sort of awkward when I'm put into situations where guys are talking about sports, because I have nothing to contribute to the conversation.
Is there anyone else out there like me that has any tips on how to get more into sports? I don't feel like I need to "fake it" because I could actually get into sports if I watched them, but I don't know where to start really. I feel like this will carry on into my adult life too when I'm at work and meeting all the guys. That's what most dudes tend to use as an icebreaker.
