View Full Version : Graduation gift?

Hey everyone,
I've been given the choice to pick an expensive graduation gift, and I'd like to get a nice car. The cost shouldn't be extremely expensive, a cousin and uncle both offered to pay individually. I asked for something cheap, but they insist on something nice. I feel guilty, but they're both very well off. I'm not going to argue. I will be paying for gas, title, insurance, and maybe part of the car's cost as well.
Here's what I have in mind:
Audi R8 with a Valkyre kit- Would be a hand-me-down
2004 Mercedes SL- dunno
BMW M5 or M6- awesome power, but seem like they're for seniors
Aston Martin- Nice, but reliability is terrifying
first model year Gallardo- nice, but expensive for nothing
Ferrari 612 or 456- amazing 4 seaters, but aging designs
Mercedes CLS- Cramped, but nice looking
Jaguar XK-R- I love em, but it isn't too nice to look at
Maserati Quottroporte - seems nice for a 4-door, finding dealers for service is hard, and it seems like a senior car
Any other ideas? Thoughts? Please don't give me a speech on how I don't need one, or that I'll kill myself driving it. I drag race and track race, and I'm an excellent driver. I go to a school where people drive Rolls Royces and Escalades. Not having a nice car seriously hurts your reputation, and I work hard to afford what I have right now.
Thank you very much!
Matt

Lovely school you go to, I assume you have a good job to pay for all this? (gas, title, insurance, and maybe part of the car's cost as well.)
Word of advise, fuck everyone else, get the car you know you would love, don't let what others would think influence you.

I have a decent job, I'll be able to afford it.
I know I shouldn't give a shit about others, but it's the biggest status symbol.

Fuck looks, get the car that doesn't guzzle gas too heavily. Gas gets expensive, and if you end up with a car that goes through it quickly, you will end up paying for a lot. Compare MPG and check online reviews to back it up. Also get something reliable! The last thing you want is a car that has pieces that are hard to obtain. If something stops working correctly, you'll probably ending buying the pieces to get it fixed (and finding them as well).
I don't know much about cars, but I know a lot about saving money xD Hope I helped.

I'm already getting like 12 MPG, $175 per fill up. I don't mind, since I enjoy it. I will still have my truck and other family cars in case this one breaks down. I'm in LA too, parts are relatively easy to find.

If someone can afford to pay for a bunch of gas what would be the problem. Every 4-6 days I fill up my truck with up to $200 in gas. Sometimes I fill up more often and it doesn't bother me. I get 7 miles a gallon in my truck and I love it. And it's got looks too. So fuck your opinion on guzzling gas just cause you can't afford it. Lol

Haha. I know exactly what you mean. The school I go to here is rich kids and nice cars. I work really hard for my stuff too, and I'm always getting people who say my parents spoil me. Sad fact of the matter is, I make more money annually than my parents do, so really I just spoil myself. Live life in luxury if you can.
Choose what's best for you. I am paying full cost for my new car now and they're installing my options now. I got a 2013 Charger SRT8 Black Top Edition. And then I have my 09 Sierra Denali and an 02 Silverado. Both trucks are lifted and are amazing.

Not in a relationship ATM. Girls like nice cars, though :P
Seriously considering a Hummer H1, Varvatos (spelling?) 300c, or the mac daddy: the Cadillac CTS-V.
Fastest production sedan FTW

The H1 used to be on my wish list. It actually still is, they are badass man. If you want a 300C the only really good one is gonna be the SRT version. And the cts-v caddys are pretty nice. My grandma has one and I borrow it every once in a while, they are pretty nice cars. I've gotten it to 176 and started to run out of road, I know it will go faster, my charger got to 184 and topped out. But it will be faster after its done in the shop, I'm in the process of getting an HPE800 Twin Turbo System installed which will give the car 800bhp.

The Cadillac will eat anything on the face of the earth with modifications. It's basically a ZR1 engine, they just can't be beat. Chargers are nice, but they finesse at high speed. Plus, they're better for modding on a decent budget. The CTS-V will fuckin fly if modded, but it takes good money to go good speed.

I wouldn't say it's cheap to mod a charger. The kit that's being installed is a $78k twin turbo kit. It cost more than the car.
