"California should raise the driving age to 18"
I don't know where I stand in this argument but right now I'm leaning towards raising it rather than keeping it at 16 (with the exception of people who are 15).
What are your thoughts on this?

Driving is a privilege, not a right. But 18 is is old. 15 1/2 for a permit and 16 for a license is fine IMO.

I've been driving to school for about a month now by myself, and for only being 14, I think I'm doing alright. So no, I don't think higher ages should be introduced. But then again, you know what they say about them Cali Drivers ;)

It's fine how it is.
I'm personally a good driver, been driving large equipment and fast cars from a young age. I drag race and track race as well. I know how far to push a vehicle, and I trust myself behind the wheel wholeheartedly. I can drive VERY defensively.
The fastest I've gone is 170 mph, going for 200 next. If you don't know what you're doing, and you have low reaction time, you WILL end up in a load of shit.

Definitely not. 18 is too long to make people wait to drive, no matter that it's a priveledge not a right.

I think it's a right, until you do something that deserves revoking that right, be it from parents or some sort of official.

I think 16 is a good age. Good enough to be responsible for good driving and such. 18 is a bit too high...pfft but what can I say. I still can't drive. My brother's nearly 20 and he can't either

Speaking as someone who just got her licence a few weeks ago i think the age of 16 is about right. California already has addressed some of the saftey concerns of teenage drivers by issuing provisional driver license. There are two restrictions for the first 12 months and they are: persons under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or other person specified by law when transporting passengers under 20 years of age, at any time for the first twelve months and driving between the hours of 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM for the first twelve months

IMO, the driving age everywhere should be 18. As should the drinking age(someplace need the drinking age at 21) but still. cuz lets say i live in Cali(like i do) get my drivers license, move to Europe, where it is 18, so i can't drive there. so i have to wait two year.

Although I am still looking forward to get my driving licence, I think 18 years is absolutely OK. To drive a car needs a certain level of maturity, which some 16yo might have, but unfortunately some 20yo still haven't.
There happened a horror crash in our county 3 years ago. A 19yo driver with 2 girls and a guy aged 17 and 18 on board drove a new Mercedes Cabrio with 200km/h (125mph) on the bypass road around his hometown - there is a speed limit of 70km/h (44mph). He left the road on a rather easy bend, crashed through two fences and some bushes, the car jumped off at a small embankment, shot accross the side street, crashed against a factory building at the height of 1st floor (which is 2nd floor according to American counting, where ground floor is called 1st floor) and then fell upside down into the courtyard, which was on the basement level. All four passengers dead!!!!
In Germany you can get the driving licence at the age of 18, it used to be even 21 years about 40 years ago.
Since 2010 they now allow getting the driving licence at the age of 17, but then you only are allowed to drive a car, if a at least 30yo person having a driving licence is passenger on the front seat. And this person even has to be registered in your driving licence.
And in Germany you get the driving licence only on probation. So if you break some rule severely (going on red light, overtaking or turning off where forbidden or speeding) in the first 2 years, the police keeps your driving licence and you have to take 4 additional driving lessons at your own expense to get it back... (and of course pay the fine)
