Okay guys, I'm REALLY excited about my new project.
I'm going to try to build a beast mode laptop from used parts that I acquire from my uncle who works in the trade. I nicknamed this project CasualAsterisk.
I don't have any idea on specs but I'm planning on triple booting Windows, Mac, and Linux (more specifically Windows 7, Mac OS X, Ubuntu 10.4 LTS)
I'm so excited
Have you guys ever made your own laptop? If so, let's see it!
P.S: I will update this thread with info on parts if when I get some

Good luck. I've never tried a laptop since it's such a complex assembly of devices, just make sure you always have someone on board with you so they can help if anything goes wrong, or come here too!
Triple booting sounds good but will you actually use all three systems? I have triple booted before and found myself only using two systems.
Which version of MAC OS X is it? 10.7? 10.8?

Realistically I'm probably gonna dual boot Windows and Linux then if I care enough have a VM with OS X in it :P

Hehe, why are you planning to use Mac OS X for anyway? I'm sure there are many Windows alternatives for software and it may be laggy in a VM. Linux on the other hand is probably a lot more suitable in a VM as it does not require much and you'll be mainly using a command line interface rather than an eye-candy GUI like Mac.

That's pretty cool, man! I think I wull stick with my MacBook Pro for now though... I am HORRIBLE at technology!

I've thought about building a laptop myself, but never gone through with it. Finding a suitable case has always been the biggest issue. I've upgraded laptop CPUs, RAM, HDDs, mobo swaps, stuff like that. Never a custom laptop, though. Right now I'm on a dual processor Intel Xeon rig, it's kick ass.

I'm using Ubuntu with the window manager, not just the command line
Also I would only do the VM with OS X just for the novelty of having all three OS's at my disposal, nothing more.

Agreed!
Dual Xeons must be a beast to have!
I'd love that in my main rig, let alone my Laptop.

I can clock dual core + games at 6.0 ghz, quad core. Only problem is the noise, it has over 10 fans to cool everything, even the ram lol

Liquid cool baby ;) Get a nice XSPC setup in there, don't know if there is a watercooled tablet though... and I dunno where someone would put the pump and res.
Dammit Matt, share? :whoops: I'm running a i3 lulz.
But Mirage, that will be something epic to show off :p

lol no, it's not a laptop. It's a full sized workstation, bigger than a full tower.
