My dad talked to me about it a few months ago (embarrassing) and gave me a book about it. It's only a problem if you do it to much that your thing gets sore. Like you rub it to much and the skin starts to get irritated or you get a sore like a blister. Then you need to let it heal and not make it sore like that. Otherwise it's OK to do it all the time you want and is supposed to be healthy for you.
