View Full Version : Is it weird being friends with someone so young?

So I have a friend whos 13, while I'm almost turning 18.
Naturally, we would never, ever be friends (cause of both age, and we have way different personalities). But because our families are close, we became friends.
I feel a little odd hanging out with him sometimes, just cause I'm so much older.

Why would you never be friends with a 13 year old? I'm 15 (practically) and I hang out with 20-25 year olds a lot. Not weird at all.

It's fine, age doesn't really matter if your just friends :P

I don't think it's weird. I mean, you guys are guaranteed to have some differences because of the age gap, and you're both at different levels, physically, emotionally and mentally, but that doesn't mean you can't be friends, doesn't mean you can't like having fun with them. I'm not sure if you're worried about the actual age gap, or the consequences of it, but if it's just the 13 vs 18 thing, remember it's only five years.
If it's the consequences, naturally, like I said, there will be more difference than say to someone the same age, but you can also have common interests, compatible personalities, and just really get along. I don't think the age matters in friendships.
The only negative thing I say here is, I don't know the kid, but 13 year old's are generally quite impressionable, especially by older people they look up to, they're still learning about the world, so just be aware of things you do or say to him. I'm not saying censor what you say, but maybe keep your favourite type of porn and conspiracies about terrorism and/or the government to yourself until he's a bit older. :)

Nah, you're fine. I've got friends that age, and I've got friends in their 30s and 40s. As long as you guys have fun together, that's all that matters.

My youngest friend is 15 and I'm almost 18. I wouldn't hang out with anyone younger than 14-15 year olds.

Damn, so does that mean I can't brainwash him with my conservative ideas? :P Actually his parents can do that for him cause they believe in what I believe lol

I'm 14 and my best friend is 18. I'm his best friend too; I don't think theres anything wrong with it. If you share similar interests and likes then why should age matter?

I agree, age doesn't tell you who you can be friends with.

Totally fine! I have a bunch of senior friends. They are all 18 or just about to turn 18. I am 15.
