hey, I got my laptop fixed about 4 months ago after it just died, they fixed everything for me and cleaned it all up without having to wipe it. So I've been using it and I was trying to use the built in webcam to help with my steam account because I wanted to play online with a mate but for some reason my computer detects a built in webcam but it gives it a random name on the Device manager screen and it simply doesn't work. I've never used the webcam that much before so it was never an issue.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas?

Re-install the drivers by finding the appropriate driver (through your laptop's CD or manufacturers website), then give it a nice restart. Un install the old (and probably corrupt) driver first, since it sounds more likely the system is detecting it incorrectly rather than it not working/malfunctioning.

Make sure you uninstall the driver from the Device Manager completely.

If you are using Windows 8, just being online and letting Windows Update install the proper driver will work perfectly well. If you are using Windows 7 or older, you will have to force it to install and use the proper drivers.
