Galaxy s3 for about 155£ on an average contract.
How do the contract systems work over there by you?

Hey, if i were you i would go get a contract deal and pay something like £10/£15 a month, then 2 years after you could upgrade your phone and get a more up to date phone however updating the phone may change prices slightly...

The SII. It is worth <£150, but it's got 4G as well as it will have a hard time breaking (if used in places not underwater; I found that out the hard way)

An S2 worth less than £150 that's probably new? Where?!

Avoid any android devices... even on high end devices the OS runs like crap compared to the other ones, it simply isn't worth it on a low end device since chances are most apps won't properly work on your phone.

You can get the Nokia Lumia 520 or 620 without a contract for around that price. Unexpensive, awesome camera, awesome OS and all apps and games will work on it. You will also be able to use Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote) and Xbox LIVE in the phone, as well as Xbox Music, Nokia Music, etc.

If going for a contract, the Lumia 920 is pretty much indestructible, has the best camera on any phone, and pretty much everything you can even think of.

Not sure if you can get any iOS devices worth your money for that price without it being 1 or 2 models behind, but it would still be far better than any android-based crap.

I strongly disagree with this.

What do you plan on using your phone for? What does it need to be able to do?

Nokia Lumia 620. 129.99 on O2. I feel that although not as mature as Android or iOS, Windows phone is smooth, intuitive and different. Plus this phone has great specs for the price!

What are you on?

Firstly, you could not even get an iPhone 3GS at new condition, so I don't know what you mean by "1 or 2 models behind", because that is clearly an understatement. Oh, and should I mention those phones are slow anyway? Those old versions are no where as near as buttery smooth as new phones.

Buttery smooth as in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, project Butter, in which all high end phones run at the same consistency or even better than iOS. You say Android-based crap but what is "android based" and how is it "crap". You say it's laggy, no shit, of course old software will be laggy. Duh.

And you don't have anything else to say about Android. Windows Phone isn't free. iOS isn't free. BB OS isn't free, but ANDROID IS. How can you criticise something you don't even pay for when buying the phone? You're not buying an Android License like you do when you register an iPhone, a license to use that software.

Besides, it's highly customizable and everyone will have a different android experience. iOS and Windows Phone both lack that, and not to mention Windows Phone have an incredibly pitiful app store, whereas Android is booming with popular apps from iOS. Can you even root or jailbreak a Windows Phone? No. Do your god damn research before saying that something is "crap" with no reasonable excuse.

First of all, we aren't talking about high end phones here. In fact, this thread is about budget phones, the ones where a shit ton of apps from the google play store can't even run and usually don't even run the latest version of the shitty OS either.

"Old software will be laggy". What? Look at a low end Windows Phone 8, or at a launch-day Windows Phone 7 device. They run smooth, and every single app you can install, works just as good as on the high end phones. That's what a good OS does, it gives you a consistent experience on all hardware it supports, something Android fails miserably at.

As a consumer, who cares whether the OS is free or not? Samsung, for example, marks up their phones way more than any other company, and they don't pay a license for the OS! (They do, however, have to pay royalties to companies whose patents are violated by Android and other software from Google). Apple is the only one who makes iOS-based devices, and since its their own OS, they don't have to pay royalties either. The only ones who do are the Windows Phones, but even the licensing fee of that is lower than the royalties that Android manufacturers have to pay thanks to Google's unwillingness to abide by Copyright rules and regulations.

Have you even seen the Windows Marketplace? Pretty much every single popular app from all the other stores is either already there or announced as coming soon. Add to that the fact Windows Phone has official Microsoft Office support, for free, out of the box (something that on any other OS is a US$100+ / year subscription or something like that).

Yeah everyone will have a different android experience. Either you buy a high-end phone and root it just so that it works almost as good as an iOS or Windows device out of the box, or you buy a crappy phone that is cheap but barely works and can't run over half the apps in the store. It's called Market Fragmentation, Android's biggest problem, and a non-existant thing for iOS or Windows Phone.

Why would you even NEED to root or jailbreak a Windows Phone if it works perfectly well, fast and smooth out of the box? To sideload apps? If you are a developer (only ones who need the feature for something other than piracy), you can do that for free.

That's without even mentioning the crap load of illegal apps that google has approved for their marketplace. Everything from phishing scams to viruses. Once again, something unique to the android ecosystem.

You should follow your comment. In your own, words "Do your god damn research".

Thanks for the price quote, wasn't entirely sure what the price point for the 620 was.

You can also add in the fact that right now, Pandora is offering a free 1 year premium sub to Windows Phone users only. You get the full Pandora experience, no ads, unlimited skips and high quality audio for a full year by using it on your Windows Phone.

And also, there's a couple of new apps announced that are coming out some time this week. And don't forget the Nokia exclusive games and apps that they release regularly.

I personally use an Android phone currently. I used to have a Windows 7.5 Phone. I think both Windows and Android offer great experiences in their own way, I just thought that this phone was a good phone for that price point. BOTH ARE GOOD. END OF STORY.
If the person buying the phone wants Android (And it is their decision), then I would recommend the Huawei G300. £100. Spend the extra £50 on headphones or 30 posters of Bilbo Baggins posing in different positions wearing a unitard.

How many spoonfuls of stupid did you have for breakfast?

even on high end devices the OS runs like crap compared to the other ones
You're the one mentioning high end phones, when no you've opened your eyes and realised that we are talking budget phones here. Is the iPhone a budget phone? Is that what you call budget? No. Swiftly moving on.

Samsung, for example, marks up their phones way more than any other company, and they don't pay a license for the OS! (They do, however, have to pay royalties to companies whose patents are violated by Android and other software from Google).
Would you like to source your quackery here?

I just said, Android is a free OS. Of course they don't pay a god damn license. FREE. Pay royalties to who? Android was paid by Google, since when did Samsung have anything to do with it?

Add to that the fact Windows Phone has official Microsoft Office support, for free, out of the box (something that on any other OS is a US$100+ / year subscription or something like that).
Wow Free MS Office out of the box?! NO way! So you pay for a subscription hmm? Well, you must be rather ill-informed. Have you heard of ThinkOffice? Google Docs? QuickOffice? No you clearly haven't, once again, YOU need to do your god damn research.

Gosh, will you stop flip flopping? First you say we are not talking about high end devices and then you do, and then you're talking about the operating system (software) versus low end specs (hardware). Do you even know what these terms mean? Of course something with low end specs won't run something well. Doesn't take much to figure that out.

Why would you even NEED to root or jailbreak a Windows Phone if it works perfectly well, fast and smooth out of the box? To sideload apps? If you are a developer (only ones who need the feature for something other than piracy), you can do that for free.
You sir, have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and losing the plot. Jailbreaking is to install apps and mods to iOS and it's perfectly legal. It allows those to tap into root priveledges with the OS, allowing for further functionality. And the same with android, rooting allows access to CPU underclocking (and overclocking if on seperate kernel) as well as USB debugging and root access to change system apps. All you're doing here is stereotyping like many fanboys and frankly it is quite ridiculous.

That's without even mentioning the crap load of illegal apps that google has approved for their marketplace. Everything from phishing scams to viruses. Once again, something unique to the android ecosystem.
What apps? Those apps are low in popularity, meaning you're only going to stumble across those apps if you search for it specifically. At least with android you don't need to pay a moronic license to create apps when Android lets any user, professional or home make their own for free.

I absolutely hate when people think they're talking sense when actually they're talking jibberish which is untrue. You have wasted your time and mine.

I think the Nokia Lumia 700 would be around that price, my father has one and he is quite pleased with it.
