This is probably not the right place, but does/can the VT chat room work on a mobile device?

Yeah. I'm using it right now. You need the tapatalk app. It's free and should work on android and iPhones.

Sorry. I got it free. It must have been on sale or something when I got it. All I did was go to the VT website on y phone. It asked if I wanted the mobile app and it took me to the App Store. I use iPhone. There might be a difference when dealing with an android. Sorry if there is. Good luck on the gift card.

The Chat Room is a java applet and will not work on most, if not, all mobile devices, since it is only for desktop use.

Well, I'm not sure how you're on a java applet through a phone app that's only for the forum considering that VT have not paid for a mobile license for the website as it was too expensive and not worth it. But if you found a workaround (apparently) it would be great to share it. I and a lot of users use Tapatalk and cannot access the chat room.

I wish I could run the chatroom on mobile.
Nevertheless, this thread may be better here - TWPR  VT HQ

I feel that there may have been an element of misunderstanding here. The Tapatalk app provides a more accessible interface for browsing of the forums, but will not support either the chat room, or private messaging. The chat room is, as mentioned above, a paid Java applet, the software for which is provided by a third party (Addonchat (http://www.addonchat.co.uk/)). While this third party does offer a mobile version of the chat, this is provided for an additional charge of 25.00 USD, a significant amount of money for a not-for-profit site. For this reason, it is not possible to use the chat room on mobile devices or (most) tablets.
