If Apple were to offer cheaper iPhones, would they basically be ruining themselves?

So when I, and many others think of Apple. They think of high quality electronics that have a type of Exclusive factor. But do you think if Apple were to offer cheaper iPhones, they would ruin their high profile, wealthy client consumers?

Personally, I think they would. Here's a scenario that I think of when I think of Apple offering cheaper iPhones. Most Everyone in my school either wears Hollister, American Eagle, or Abercrombie and Fitch, so wearing those types of brands isn't really special. It's not worth showing off. Whereas if you were to wear brands like D&G, True Religion, or Jimmy Choo, that would be worth showing off. Especially because only a very limited few would be wearing that in the whole school. Whereas if they decided to make their prices the same as Abercrombie and Fitch, everyone would be getting it and it wouldn't be as special and it wouldn't be worth showing off.

The reason for apple to lower the price on the next iPhone (whenever that is) is so more people buy it like you said. Everyone will have it, but because more people are buying more money ends up going into their pockets. Net profit right there.

There are 2 problems with your statement.
You're assuming that Apple doesn't make a ridiculous amount of profit on each unit that they sell at the current price. There's problem #1.
Problem #2 is the jealousy factor. I suppose that most people see someone who's strutting around with their brand new Apple phone obviously is professional and good and stuff. And you want to be seen like that too. And by making the price high, Apple can make their products "exclusive", or rather, "extortionately high so that only wealthy people can buy them". This drives those who can't afford their dream product to go about praising them, in the hopes that somehow, they'll get the cash to purchase one. See also problem #1.

Apple would not be "ruining" themselves as you're imagining it. The only way for that to happen is if Apple sold them at their actual value, and not with the profit they make on top of it. I predict that the price you pay is at least double what it's actually worth.

I don't think they would be. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has outsold the iPhone 5 by thousands. A main reason is because the Galaxy is $100-$150 than the iPhone 5 for most of the same features. The Samsung corporation is definitely not suffering and I believe they would be able to be profit worthy if they lowered their prices. As an Apple user and fan, it would be nicer if the products were cheaper, but I would be worried they would lose their sleek style and features to make a cheaper product.

Well no many people see apple as a sign of "coolness " since the devices cost 167.50$ to make as long as Apple sells it for above that people will continue to buy them because people are like sheep they follow the direction of all the other sheep. Because they want to be "cool".


Even though Blackberrys are way better phones :p

I think Apple want to get as many people with their iPhones as possible, which is why the price would be lowered as if everyone has an iPhone they'll be everywhere :P

A lot of people have apple products.
Apple products in most cases ONLY work with similar apple products, so therefore, you have to buy more apple products.
They don't need to lower the prices, they already have a TON of people on the leash.
They created a simple phone, and made the world believe that they are the best.

Samsung is doing some pretty awesome stuff btw. S4 looks incredible! And my mom just got a Samsung Smart TV, and it is pretty sweet, with awesome features, and interface and such! She likes movies. :P
