I'm not trying to be offensive here or anything, im just curious. Like, I think once most guys hit puberty they are pretty much down, whereas most girls don't want to until much later

For some people, not just girls, sex is more than just pleasure, it's meant to be an emotional experience. The people that feel this way don't want to just lose it, because there's no emotional connection or significance. Also, there's more social pressure on guys to lose it, whereas with girls, it's mostly opposite.

Because it is a big deal. Contrary to popular belief, sex isn't only just for fun. It can be a very intimate, emotional experience. A gesture of deep love, really.

Girls are typically more into the romance part of sex than guys. ;)

Both of these are right and it's probably the only answer to your q

It changes a girl more than it does a boy - and it's a bigger decision for a girl, boys aren't at risk of getting pregnant

I think a girl will never forget her first time doing it. Same with boys ;)

Because it is a big deal, sex is taken too lightly these days.

I look at it like this:
Guy and other guy talking: Dude! I totally got laid last night!
Girl putting down other girl: OMG! You knew him for like a week, you whore!

See what I mean? It is a thing to brag about for a guy -- not so much for girls

Yeah. Guys don't really see a problem with it, but girls get called sluts or whores sometimes. other times, though, it really is the emotion differential factor

I don't really think it is that big of a deal.

I think it's a big decision to make. And in my mind I know I'm nowhere near ready to lose my virginity.
It's hard to explain in more detail but until the right guy comes along and I KNOW he's right, I'm going to stay a virgin.
So yes, it's a big deal.

I'm a guy and I value my virginity, it's not that I necessarily want to keep it for a long time but I just don't want to waste it because I'll have to live with my decision

Mum always said:
"If you had a key you could stick into any lock and open it - you'd have a master key- but if your lock could have old key stuck in open it you'd have a pretty crappy lock"

If you lose your virginity by coercion or force, it's not going to be special and you may need therapy to deal with it. It can be a big deal if you rushed into it or have regrets.

I'm 17 and still a virgin by choice, turning down about six women who I could have easily fucked in my life time.

Why? Because it is important, and sex is something I will save for some one who I care about. I have never made a better decision in my life.

Right now, I'd only have a bunch of regrets if I had gotten with any of those women. A few of the ones I was dating even cheated on me because I refused.... yeah, I am super happy I chose not to.
