Disclaimer: these people aren't my friends, but it deals with social interaction.

This Thursday, I have to go to a banquet for the boys' JV and varsity hockey teams. Although, I am not a member of the team, I took pictures for the players this season. The problem is, I don't know any of these guys. They range from sophomores to seniors. Most of them are big and, to me, intimidating jocks. The parents are expecting me to take pictures of groups and individuals around the party, and one big photo of the team. I know I sound wimpy, but I cannot talk to people I don't know, especially jocks. I open my mouth and nothing comes out. I feel like throwing up. As a photographer, I have to, first get their attention, then get a photo, make sure it's good, then take another if it's bad. I have to tell them it's bad, and to smile, and be in a certain position, and whatnot. I also never see them without their helmets on, so I have no idea what they look like.

Help! Thanks.

As Jack on lost said, give the fear 30 seconds to take over and just cancel it out.

Before hand, take deep breaths and try and calm yourself down.

At the end of the day, you're doing them a favour. I hope they'd have the decency to respect you. Just think, afterwards you'll feel so much better and more confident.

Hmm, well you have a job to do. Just think about it that way. You're only going to be talking to them for a couple seconds to get a picture and on to the next one. You can stay quite the whole time till you have to take pictures. That's what I would do.
