Just found out today I have a heart murmur. Should I be concerned?

Heart murmurs can mean a lot of things, but in general I would be concerned until told otherwise by a cardiologist. I would talk to your doctor and figure out exactly why you have a heart murmur and if that is a problem in your case. There a lot of people who have heart murmurs and don't have an issue, but there are some who might need something more serious like surgery. In the end of the day only your doctor can answer this question.

Considering you found out, presumably officially, that you found out you have a heart murmur, you should not be asking us, a collection of teenagers. You should be asking the physician that diagnosed such a condition.

Heart murmurs, if detected and treated pose little threat if they are managed correctly.

The heart is one of the most widely understood and researched organs in the body, in the modern day we have adequate drugs and techniques to deal with conditions such as these.

Honestly, if you make sure that it is seen to by the correct people then I'd say you should be just fine.

I had one at birth, but I don't think its anything to worry about. Most heart murmurs are "innocent" but some can indicate a wider problem such as a valve leak or a hole in the heart. If your worried about your diagnosis, I'd go and get it investigated by a Cardiologist.
