View Full Version : More 100 post requirements

So I was thinking today that how easy it is to enter this site and talk to members off this site, I think the 100 post private message requirement is a good idea but what about the people who posted their skypes and emails on their profiles? I think maybe if others agree more measures should be applied like only after 100 posts you can see others or post your own skypes, live, yahoo im or email on profiles,

Also maybe a flag should be put on people who makes over 15 posts a day and the mods can check him/her out to see if he's just spamming

Thanks, the sole purpose is to catch more "catfishes"

I see your point! I agree completely with the Skype and email thing. Not so much on the 15 posts or more then a background check.

From a feasibility standpoint there's only so much that can be done to restrict the number of people here for malicious reasons and it can only go so far. At the end of the day VirtualTeen.org is not the internet police and we can't guarantee the safety of members on what goes on outside of the website channels. Members that do opt to post their contact information do so at their own risk and while administration can assist in situations outside of VT by possibly banning them here, not much more can really be done unless in a real severe case of getting law enforcement involved. Even then the police are within their own limitations on internet accountability.

Its important for VT members to use discretion and make wise decisions on who they choose talk to online. I think the limitations in place are more than adequate than they were several years ago. Taking restrictions to another level of what you're suggesting would only cause more inconvenience with very little benefit in safety. Also it further embellishes the idea that the more posts a member has the more trustworthy they are. In the past some members with high post counts have proven to be more dangerous than those with lower post counts.

If you put your skype/whatever in your profile, you are doing that under the knowledge that anyone can add you, regardless of their join date. If you have a problem with random people adding you off of VT, then you can change it to contacts only in your privacy settings, or take it down. I'm not even sure if this would be possible anyways.

I don't know if alerting us if a user has 15 or more posts a day is really going to do anything - it's pretty obvious by their posts if they're spamming, and we catch that fairly quickly. I see where you're coming from, but I'm not really sure if it would really accomplish much.

Very valid points, I completely understand

I'll also add, the problem with increasing limits etc. is that we need to keep it fair to all members, some people are only here for malicious activities there is no denying that. However a lot of people are here for help and advice or for fellow teens to talk too and discuss etc. If we increased limits etc, we'd be punishing the innocent (so to speak) for a sake of some bad apples. Plus post count is rather easy to beat. I mean anyone is capable of making 100+ posts in short periods of time. I mean if you were to post in puberty 101 you could probably get around 100 posts within a couple of hours, probably even less.

So really increasing post and adding all these precautions would lead to one thing, which would be those who want malicious activities to spam more and more in order to reach the relevant post limit.

Rule #1 of the internet: Don't put on it what you don't want the world to see.
Anybody can see your information if they have a spare minute or two. Your parents could make an account and use it to look at everything you post. It's not like we verify every member -- no way would we have time for that.

So be careful about who you talk to, what you disclose, and how you disclose it. At the end of the day it's your responsibility to remain safe online.

It's seems to me that since I joined VT there has been WAY too many "CatFish" type profiles... It's kind of creepy because there really isn't a definite way to validate any particular individual's identity. I agree with Shanecoleman about implementing other policies, but like the others have said... There's only so much that can be done, or expected for that matter.

A 'CatFish' profile is essentially a fake profile created by somebody using fake information, photos, etc. The name is based on the documentary show MTV is airing called CatFish. Hope that this helps man...

If you have contact details on here your going to get weirdos that's just how it is on any site, that's why O took mine off. Simple thing though if someone adds you on Skype and says weird shit then tell them "fuck off you spooky bastard" and block them, then tell a mod.

VT does a pretty good job keeping the perves away in my opinion I've not had any strange people since I stopped posting in P101 ages ago. So thumbs up to the mods!

Other sites are a hell of a lot worse!

Agreed with Apollo, as far as I can remember I can also say that the Mods have worked hard to improve and maintain the standards that keep the users of VT safe from any inconsistent profiles. Putting any & all personal info out there (FOR THE WORLD) to see comes with the obvious and expected risks. If you're someone who prefers not to have this repsonsibility, the solution is quite simple: Keep your information private.

I actually think that's a great idea. I've always been sorta weird-ed out to know, anyone could really check out my profile with an account. There isn't a way to do a check on anyone. Having a 100 post requirements could mean you are a dedicated member of VT. Seems mods do a lot of work around here to keep everything under control, and us safe :)

PS - Happy 100th to me! :D
