No, this is not a "I was abducted by aliens" type of post. Instead, I was wondering what everyone thinks about getting in contact with organisms on other planets.
I think it is fairly safe to say that intelligent beings DO live on other planets since there are billions of planets very similar to Earth and to assume we are the only lively planet is a little bit insane.
Do you think making contact and trying to reach out and talk to beings on other planets is good or bad? As we are able to travel faster and faster in space it is not unlikely for us to be able to go to other far away planets and look for alien life, so should we even be doing that?
Currently NASA does consistently send out radio waves to see if other beings will respond.

There are many scenarios that could unfold as a result of alien contact. Some good, some very bad.
Hypothetically speaking (obviously), if we were to make contact with beings outside of Earth, it's possible that they could be a friendly species who are also looking for first contact with a race outside their own planet. It's possible they could be more advanced than we are, and we could share technology and learn from each other.
It's also possible that they are not friendly, and invade our planet. It's possible they might put us into slavery and harvest our resources. It's also possible that if we were more advanced than they are, that we could do the same thing.
So, I think that there are pros and cons to connecting with ET. It's exciting to think about, but we also have to be quite careful and remember that they may not be as friendly as we would like.

Smart idea, broadcasting our position to the entire universe, so if a more advanced race needs slaves or resources, they can just roll over here and screw us over.
We need to stay the Hell away from aliens. Natives and aboriginals didn't and we Europeans were simply more advanced fellow humans. That didn't end well for them.
Let's just say that if an alien power comes to visit us it's probably not to teach us how to build stun guns and cold fusion reactors. We can't go to them and we won't be able to for a very long time so I won't say anything about that.
haha yeah my thoughts
higher intelligence aliens probably wouldn't want to contact us, and any which does probably would want to enslave us; like columbus and native americans.

There is some evidence to say that aliens landed on earth about 4000 years ago and were largely peaceful, if you look at carvings on cave walls there are picture of aliens and space ships. However this is all just a theory. I think it's stupid to send out radio signals through the allan array, it's like a 90 year old walking out with 100 pounds in his hand telling everyone he is weak and about to die. If aliens did ever come here they would defeat us in about 2 minutes. I'll leave you with a stephen hawking's quote on the matter.
If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans"

I'd first I guess scout to see their lifestyle and if they are friendly or not, apparently stephan hawkins is totally against making contact though

True, there is definitely a lot of "evidence" to suggest they visited before because it seems unlikely that such detailed cave drawings could have been drawn without the event having taken place.
There are other areas with a bit of evidence as well. But ya broadcasting our locations is just asking for trouble in my opinion.

I don't know if interacting with other life forms would be good. We run the risk of them being hostile to us, or of us killing them off. Many things could go wrong.
That being said, there is so much we could learn by going to another planet and studying its biology. I think we should if ever we are able to.
Unfortunately, our technology is nowhere near good enough to get to another planet. Sending radio waves out is easier, but since the nearest potentially habitable planets are insanely far away, they would take a while to get anywhere.

While there have been many, many movies made about how alien encounters would go, I'm guessing it would become something like the Terminator. Imagine millions of Arnies rolling about our planet! I dread the mere thought!
I think that perhaps we should all leave each other alone. There are some things best left undiscovered. And besides, I don't want a Skynet.

I think we should leave aliens alone and they should leave us alone until we or they are both developed enough
