does anyone have any ideas of how to avoid pimples in the pubic hair area? i have one at the moment and its painful because pubic hair is growing through it. i would prefer not to have to shave down there to get rid of it.

Wait for it to go away, pop it, whatever you normally do. Not much else, really. Just a pimple. To prevent just keep it clean like your face.

Pimples really suck. :/ Not much you can really do about it, as the skincare products for your face contain chemicals too strong for delicate area's such as your pubic region. And shaving or waxing wouldn't prevent you getting pimples there as the problem is in the pores, not the hair folicle.
Skin problems can be caused by lots of things such as hormonal imbalance or poor diet. Lots of stuff can set off skin problems, really. All you can really do is keep that area clean with soap and water. :)

Stephen, if there's just one hair growing out of it, the zit is probably the result of an ingrown hair. Just pull that one hair out and it'll solve the problem.
If you've got one zit only, be thankful! It'll go away soon enough. If they recur, and you're not a particularly zitty person, you have to consider the possibility that you're getting them only there because of some reason other than *sigh* puberty. Try changing your soap, dusting with a little corn starch powder to minimize wetness during the day, and if all fails, it might be some skin infection, which would require topical meds.

INgrown hairs Sam, the hairs grow inwards into/or under the skin, they don't stick out. That's the way normal hair grows.

If you pop it make sure you keep it clean. You don't want to get that infected to where it makes a cyst.
