At school on Friday, we had an assembly for Remembrance Day, and dunno what happened, but afterwards, my thumb was bleeding like crazy, and I was wondering how it happened, then I remembered that I was holding one of those poppies, and the pointy thing on it must have poked me.

A piece of skin is half off my thumb, do I need to get stitches or something? I put some polysporian (however you spell it), and i cover it up with a bandage.

Help me

Well, I don't know what you mean specifically, just makes sure it is super clean, and covered when around people. Try leaving it uncovered maybe at night so it can get some freshair. If it starts looking irratated or infected go see a doctor.

I'd say go to the doctor as soon as you can really, if it gets infected, thats bad. The doctor will clean it properly and take whatever actions needed.

if it looks reaaally bad you should see a doctor, if not just clean out the cut with polysporne and bandage it up.

It's not really infected, there's just a piece of skin coming off, and if I do leave it uncovered, it kills like a muh f-ing b*tch....ugh.

nah don't leave it uncovered or it could get infected. the polysporne/disinfectant is to keep infection from happening in the first place. covering it with a bandaid/bandage also protects the cut while its healing.

Yeh, I know that. I just want it to heal right away.

yep, as the others have said see a doc. that way its cleaned up properly and there are no dramas. you may or may not need stiches but at least you will avoid an infection.

well yeah, thats the fastest way for it to heal :P

not much else you can do.

of course if you needed stitches then it would be best to go to the hospital

911! 911! 911!

If you've lost a 'chunk' of skin and are bleeding profusely, tell an adult immediately! Do NOT mess with this, do NOT wait!

Any kind of '-sporin' med is merely a topical antibiotic. If it's a deep gash, it cannot prevent any infection from entering the bloodstream because it is too weak a concentration of antibiotic.

If you need stitches, you have less than 24 hours, otherwise the skin around the wound dies, and cannot be stitched together, so you really can't wait here.

Go find your parents and show them now!

(P.S. it's really important to know the correct answers before answering, regardless of what positions you might have recently applied for).

I was overreacting. It wasn't a 'chunk', it was just a piece of skin. And it only bled a bit, i put some pressure on it, to stop the bleeding. The piece of skin came off just a couple seconds ago, I think I'll be okay now, hopefully. It still hurts though.

no need to be all subtly rude Sam. i wouldn't of gave that advice if i thought she actually ripped a chunk of a finger off, which would be very hard to do with a poppy pin.

just like chay said, it was a piece of skin, and everything should turn out alright for her :)

Yeah, Sam, that was pretty uncalled for.

I totally missed that part, the one sam wrote, but like it's wrong, but there's no point in making a whole big deal about it, I mean, it could have been worse what he could have said instead.

You probably just nicked a capillary or small vein, which would explain it bleeding heaps and taking a while to clot. You shouldn't need to go to the doctor, just a bit of anti-septic and band aid, and you should be sweet. :)

ok, this is turning into an arguement, besides the injury happened over a week ago now.
