So im going to be on the varsity baseball team this year and i was wondering if i should buy a cup. Do i need to have a jockstrap to play or shorts with a cup pouch? Thanks for your help.

Depends on your position. I played 1st base and center field usually and I didn't wear a cup. I know catchers have to wear them. I never did and I never got hit.

I would wear one just for safety. You never know what could happen!

Even though it's not comfortable, definitely wear a cup, doesn't matter what position you play. look at the pros, they do, even if they play the outfield.
If you're gonna get hit, it's gonna be in the batters box. like, foul tip to the ground coming straight back up. It's one thing to get kinda hit if the ball is coming from in front of you, but from the bottom, is the most painful and dangerous.
get a tennis ball, if you got hit in that area from the front, it might not even hurt even if it's going really fast hit by a racket or bat or if you threw it against a wall. It really wouldn't hurt much at all.
Now if you fairly gently, only using your hand, bounce the ball so it hits from the bottom, you'll not like it at all, but that's gentle. NOW IMAGINE IT BEING A HARD BASEBALL, GOING 50-80 MPH.
Wear a cup and still hope ya never get hit.
without it, you easily could use a testicle. at my school it's not even an option to wear one or not for baseball or lacrosse. wear one or don't play. period.
I think a jock works better cuz it lifts it up into your boys and holds it there. The pouch lets it slide down some. even tho jock works better, no one wears them i think cuz they don't want their junk or butt hanging out in the lockerroom. not sure.
i have both kinds and wear compression short with pouch most of the time. if it's hot out, i like jock better, but its not gonna be hot for a while.
