What is your opinion about fasting?

Do you think is bad or good?

Have you done it?

For how much time?

This isn't really ED related.

Eating Disorders  Cooking and Food

I fasted a couple times for religious reasons, on my own wishes just because. My family doesn't or anything normally though.

I haven't fasted, but I probably will sooner or later. I think it's a great idea if you want to get more deep in your religion. So me, I would grow more deep in my Christianity. But I would only do it for a day.

I don't do it and really don't know the health factors. I would assume it's not the best thing for you.

fasting is a great thing
i dont do a water fast for more than a day usually
though i do a day fast for a month a year
the longest ive fasted at once was 5 days, though i dont think fasts should be done for a long time or done frequently. its more for cleansing your self.

What is your opinion about fasting?

Complete bull crap and devoid of any benefit.

Do you think is bad or good?

Very bad, as you consistently need nutrition.

Have you done it?
For how much time?

Yeah. From sun up till sun down. Religious obligation and stuff. And for a whole freaking month. But I stopped fasting completely.

Just because you fast doesn't mean you automatically get deeper with God. Fasting is spending the time praying and reading the bible. Not playing video games or sleeping or participating in activities. Fasting is strictly religious, reading the bible and praying (other than going to school).

The whole point is fasting is spending the extra time with God. It's done for religious reasons, but fasting for to long can be detrimental to your health. Most people fast from food, only drinking water. I would never do it.

I fasted a couple times with my friends' churches. One was for awareness and one was more educational. We did community service and helped out around the town and stuff. They lasted 30 hours each, but one of them, I had to start early and end late because of conflicting plans, so it ended up being around 35 hours.

Since you originally had this in ED, I'm guessing you mean fasting as a diet fad, in which case, I think it's terrible. If you don't break it right, you'll gain weight, and it promotes the idea that not eating is a healthy way to lose weight, and it's not.

Val, thanks
I really didn't know where to put it .-.

And to all for answering, thanks :D

Melissa: I put it in ED by mistake... I wouldn't do this to lose weight, but anyway thanks for the advice.

I've seen some studies that show it might be healthy. Personally, I love food too much to give it up, even for a day.

I can't even leave the house in the morning without even some oatmeal. To begin with I'm agnostic so I don't preach any religion or am affiliated with any religion, and I don't think I'd be able to last that even more than 8 hours without food.

I did it back when I thought it would actually help me lose weight (it didn't), and it was only 36 hours I think, but it drove me insaneeeee. I thought about food constantly and the rumbling of my stomach interrupted me doing things. Had it been for a charity like the 48 Famine or something of similar purpose, the mental side probably wouldn't have drove me crazy because my mentality was "can't eat food because you're fat" while if it were for something worthwhile it would have been like "it's only __ hours, I can do it, THINK OF THE CHILDREN".

I think fasting is stupid. 1) If you want to do it to lose weight: merh wrong. Worst and hardest way to do it and 2) some people say you should fast before you diet or eat cleaner to flush crap out of your system, and that's a load of crap because a) you'll gain extra weight you'll have to lose once you eat again and 2) all that crap you've eaten is stored in your fat cells.

So, in all: stooopid. :P

Fasting can be good, fasting can be bad; it depends on how and why it is done.
I, personally, have fasted.
For two days, roughly.
