Hey. Yesterday my older brother was in a car accident. He was driving on a country road, hit an ice patch and slid, hitting another car. He was pronounced dead at the site. He was a good person... A really good older brother and a father figure to me because my dad was never one. He always was a fanatic for my writing, so I decided I'd write him a poem saying how important he is to me, and how much I miss him already. Here is what I have so far. What do you think?
Big brother, so tall
Giving me wisdom I've never had before
Teaching me things I never would have thought
Being a friend when I had none
You cared more than I ever could
You talked to me more than my parents would
So much older than me, yes
But you are the rock to me
You taught me to have faith in God,
I was taught to love life
But now you're gone
Big brother, so funny
You made me laugh when I was sad
Smile when I was mad,
Never once did I stay angry with you
You told me to never fear,
Big brother would always be here
But now you're gone
Big brother, so generous
Bought me things when I liked them
You worked so hard, at both your jobs
Maintaining a house our parents would not
Handing me love like it was an object,
Loving me like I was your own flesh
You never once asked for me to return
Instead you refused when I tried
But now you're gone
Big brother, so quiet
Never once fighting with me
Even when you were angry
Gentle and kind, your words so nice
I could find refuge in them
You never once cared
About my angriness
Instead you stopped the pain
Before it started
Big brother, now you're gone
You promised to be here,
But that can't happen anymore
No heaven or hell to go to,
Eternal rest is what you get
I know you don't hear my words,
But I hope this peace is everything
You need, want and dream of
Big brother, promise keeper
I promise I will be okay
Dad will not hurt me, I will not let him
I will carry on your legacy
As the person you raised me to be
Kendall Travis West,
Rest in Peace
Forever more.
That's all I have for now... What do you think?
