View Full Version : Explaining my religion

Hey.
I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Many people say we are weird in our beliefs. Here I am, to kind of explain some facts and prove some myths false.

Myth: Jehovah's Witnesses are Bible fanatic.
Many people believe that they only read the Bible. They don't get up and have fun, they don't do anything like that. They hate the idea of getting out and having a good time.

Fact: We love fun! We have many gatherings, gift swaps, parties, and the like. Our weddings contain a lot of fun, our graduation parties contain lots of fun stuff. We love to gather together, inviting others that are not in the religion to our parties. We just love having fun!

Myth: Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in Jesus.
They don't celebrate Christmas, so it's obvious they don't appreciate or believe in him.

Fact: In all actuality, we do.
Jesus Christ, in our religion, is the Son of God. He was the first creation, the 'helper' in creating everything. We don't celebrate Christmas because, quite frankly, it's not Jesus' birthday. In the Bible, it mentions the Shepherds of Bethlehem being out late when Jesus was born. If he were born near December 21st (correct that if it's wrong I don't know the date of Christmas), it would have been too cold for the Shepherds to be out. Their sheep would die. Proper research on the part of many shows that the time Jesus was born was actually right around Late October/ early November, were the weather was still okay for the sheep.

Myth:Jehovah's Witnesses would let their children die.
They don't take blood, so they would let their children die if they needed a blood transfusion.

Fact: We love our children! Our preference is for all to live.
The reason why we don't take blood transfusion, well there's a lot. Here are two:
1) God believes blood is sacred. Way back in the way-back machine, when we sacrificed animals for our sins, the people would pour out the blood of the animal, not in taking of it at all.
2) It's unsafe. Even with modern technology, blood can still be unsanitary and have diseases such as STDS, blood-based illnesses, and the like. Even when it's pronounced clean, there still can be something in the blood that's dangerous. And your body can reject it. If the doctor gets the wrong blood type, your body can reject it, causing more harm than good.
There are alternatives we take that are safe and are good for your body too. If you need I can send you some of those procedures.

Myth: Jehovah's Witnesses sacrifice their children to their god.

Fact: Okay I know this seems weird. I've had people say this to me though! I can say for a certainty we don't. Every little one that comes into the church leaves the church too.

Myth:Jehovah's Witnesses hate gays.
They do not support them. They hate them.

Fact: Homosexuality is not hated by us. Were no one in our religion practices it, if someone (say, in our family or someone we know) practices it, we will not condemn them. No, though, it's right. We do not support them. We don't condone them either. If someone is homosexual, we do not associate ourselves with them all the time, but that is not to say we avoid them completely. We just avoid the topic of homosexuality in our religion altogether.

Myth:Jehovah's Witnesses are trying to convert people.
They're always at my damn door!

Fact: Yes and no. When we go knocking on people's doors, we're not trying to say "READ YOUR BIBLE OR YOU WILL DIE!!!", rather we're trying to give people a sense of hope. When you look at this world, do you see unicorns and love? I don't. If you do, please, oh please share your secrets! But I'm sure most of us know this world is full of hate. We're trying to show that one day it will get better. That's why we are always at the door.

Myth: Jehovah's Witnesses believe in hell. (Reference: A Revelation- To John- New King James' Version of the Holy Scriptures)

Fact: We most certainly do not. We believe when you die, you're dead. You don't go on. You don't go to some hell, nor do you go to heaven. We believe we all just die. No 'soul' that moves on after us. No mental power that keeps going when we don't. We are simply dead.

Myth:Jehovah's Witnesses don't eat meat.
They find all things sacred. They just won't eat it.

Fact: Jehovah's Witnesses love a good hamburger!
We do find many things sacred. But no. Not animals (really? A sacred pig?). We do eat meat. That same reasoning could say we're all anorexic. I'm sure you've noticed we're not anorexic at all. Some of us are very thick, to say the least. We do eat meat, and veggies and all that kind of stuff.

Myth:Jehovah's Witnesses celebrate Jewish holidays.
Reference: Many sources on the Internet.

Fact: Naw. We don't. We don't celebrate any holiday besides the memorial of Jesus' death.

Well, those are some myths busted about us. If you have any questions please ask. If you're gonna hate on me, please refrain. This is just explaining some things in case anyone had any questions, so I could refer them to here. If you need I can edit and explain other stuff.
If you liked this, I am glad you did.

Have a good one!

As much as I respect the fact that jehovah's witnesses are largely understood I still feel that they one of the main obsticles for social change unless they are able to adapt themself.

Hi Harry, thanks for your post!
What do you mean "adapt themselves?" We're very open to all ideas, as long as they make sense. If we do not agree, we simply put our opinion out there, and let that be the end of it. We're very peaceful, and don't want to cause any tension, or pause in social change. We just coexist with everyone around us really.

Allow me to just say the following: if you're right about the nature of God and the path to salvation, it doesn't matter how odd your beliefs are. That said, I don't really understand your argument against blood transfusions. If blood transfusions were more dangerous than simply doing nothing, they would not be in use today.

Would you be willing to give me a bit more information about the differences between Christianity and Jehovah's Witnessing (what's the actual name for your religion, not the name for the followers of your relgion?)?

Gay marriage? Gay adopation? I also believe in your religon men are expected to take a larger role in the teaching side. Also I've had countless letters from my local jehovahs telling me that the world would end in 2012

We remain neutral in the ideas of homosexuality.
Yes. That is true. But that's not because we believe women are inferior. It's more like we believe that they're more ready, since men aren't as emotional as women. Women do a lot of teaching too though! Women make up nearly 80% of our ministers, our teachers, and our parents. So even though men take the lead, women do closely follow.
Jehovah's Witnesses wouldn't say that, so I am assuming you either got letters from people that are claiming to be JWs, or people who are mad at the religion. Of which happens.

Nah. We believe in freedom of belief. You can believe what you want.
That's because people have been doing it for years. And although there are many people that do good with the blood transfusions, there are plenty of people that have been hurt by it. Like, as I mentioned, people's bodies rejecting it.

We are called Jehovah's Witnesses. The religion is more of a way of life, not a religion. If you want a 'name' for our religion, the religion is called Jehovah's Witnesses. The reason we use that is because in the Bible, in the Bible-Book of Isaiah, it says '"You are witnesses of me" is the utterance of Jehovah.' We believe in the Bible.

We do not associate ourselves with the religions of Christianity. Like I mentioned we all lead more of a specific way of life, identifying ourselves as Witnesses of Jehovah, who we believe is the Creator and God of all things. So in essence we do not have a religion, but what we do is a way of life. Christianity is a bunch of religions and beliefs.

Also, this is something most people don't know: We do not make people pay for, say, our literature or our bible studies or going to our meetings at our church. We accept only voluntary donations, and none of us get any form of money. In Christianity, from what I know; I've never been to any other belief, way of life, religion, ect, people do have to pay a form of monetary value.

We don't identify as Christians, but as Jehovah's Witnesses. If you need any more information please let me know. :)

Please edit your posts instead of double posting. -StoppingTime.

Well Jehovah's believe that a day of judgement will come and that only those who have followed god's teachings will be saved, did you know that this is one of the most common ideas which is placed behind a cult, the idea that unless you join you will be put in harms way.

The idea of a blood transfusion is to to save a life, yes like any medical treatment it has its risks but it has saved a lot of lifes. Also the idea of saying ' Ohh no let me bleed out because a man wrote in a book 2000 years ago that it was wrong'

Yes we do believe that. Is there a problem in believing that one day all the issues we have will be gone? Not to say people are an issue. But to say that things that people do are an issue.

It's like this- we don't take blood because we believe it's wrong. You take blood because you don't. I do not wish to argue, but to just explain myself. If you do not find my reasoning logical, then take it up with someone face-to-face. Because I do not wish to argue over the internet.

Thats just illogical the idea that your happy to die to please someone else, surely in your view god designed the human body to live and to function yet you are in turn abusing the gift of life. Also the idea of blood being unpure makes me think of the last group of people who were obessed with blood purity- they were called the SS.

I don't understand how your people can push something which is so weak. You've never seen him, you've never heard him, you've never touched him, you've never detected him but because of a book written 6000 years ago I must obey him and live my life so that I don't often him. Im fine for you to keep your cult hidden, its just the fact that you push something which is useless

You seem angry. You believe in that. I will not discuss this any further. Please. This wasn't for argument's purpose, but to explain something I believe in.
I understand if you're mad at God. Many people are. But we do NOT wish any at all to die. Although blood is sacred, it can kill people if not used properly.
You believe what we do is occultism. We do not support cults, rather we refrain from them.
It's just a lifestyle, Harry. Calm down.

no you don't. you say that they won't be accepted to your "paradise" for being born gay and "acting on their urges" even though theirs nothing wrong with being gay

you specifically believe that they are inferior to men because men are "supposed to take care of women and be the head of the house" and women can't take control at all and must stay in their place and listen to their husbands.

Nah. We believe in freedom of belief. You can believe what you want.
That's because people have been doing it for years. And although there are many people that do good with the blood transfusions, there are plenty of people that have been hurt by it. Like, as I mentioned, people's bodies rejecting it.

if they don't believe in and worship a fake god named jehovah then they will be destroyed in a fake armageddon so no that's not freedom of belief it's a manipulative occult

maybe if you stopped calling the world "worldly" and thinking you're better than "false religions" cause you're right and everyone else is wrong then maybe people wouldn't hate them so much but of course that'll never happen and they'll continue to try to act like the fakest group of people in the world

It's actually a common belief of religion in general. I would encourage you to read The Story of B. Sure, it's full of shit, but it's not quite as full of shit as you are, and could therefore help you out.

Don't you think I know what I believe and you don't? It's my life, not yours. Have you ever been a Jehovah's Witness? If you have then I will listen and never step foot in a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses again. But, assuming you have not, you have no idea what you're talking about.
