View Full Version : No Neg Rep?

Lately I have seen people getting all worked up about negative rep including me. I mean I don't think VT should be at all like Facebook, not one bit as a matter of fact; but I think a like button would be nice. I don't know... What do other people think?

Why people care so much about rep is beyond me, why are you going to listen to people online criticise you when you'll never even see them in person. It is not a big deal. To be honest, I'd like the whole rep thing to be abolished as it's got no real point nowadays.

That was an idea, but I know it's definately not gonna happen. I want to see the rep system go away completely though.

I think a suggestion to remove neg rep was rejected before. Same with removing the rep system. Neither's going to happen..:/

Just disable your rep. Problem solved.

Well I don't have a problem with it that much any more. I just see people stressing over it and think that a simple "like" button would be a lot better.

I've had my experience with neg reps, but after a while, most people just use it to abuse it. So I stopped caring for most of the neg reps, unless they are just for the user to piss me off, because that's all they do. If you don't like them, then don't look at them.

Well if you were to get rid of neg rep, you would have to get rid of pos rep otherwise the scale's tipped.

I have been trying to figure out how to do that... How do you disable the rep thing? ._.

Go to your User Control Panel, click on "Edit Options" on the side bar, and then un-check the box that says "Show Your Reputation Level". :)

But it still shows your 'Rep Power' so it doesn't really work...

Yeah, there's no way to get around that :P

:D If you have 165 Rep Power I know exactly how your green bar looked like even if you hide it :). So this switch off makes no sence to me. Or is there anything else behind it I don't know?

Yeah, I used to get pissed over neg rep, but really, over time, you'll get used to being neg repped/being neg repped for something stupid.

If you get a neg rep that you think is unfair, PM Mikey ( ImCoolBeans ) or Ronnie ( Scarface ) and they'll remove it, if they concur about it being unfair.
And also, people would still get pissed , if there was a "like" feature, because if they didn't get as many "likes" as someone else did, then they would get angry.

I think the rep system is fine.
Yeah, someone might be a dick and leave a rude comment on a neg rep you receive, but if it's unfair, report it, and it will be removed. :)

I know neg rep can be annoying if its used incorrectly, really though the rep system is good, it inspires people that really bother about rep to post good helpful advice! It also shows who is a dedicated member of the site. I have no problem getting neg rep if I have been a dick and if you feel its unjust report it to an admin and they can remove it.

If we implemented a like system, it wouldnt be any different, and people would bitch about not getting likes.

I sometimes get the stupid neg rep here and there, but I'm not going to bitch about it immaturely to an admin and get them to waste their time removing it. Why should I? It's not their problem, and you're probably going to get that rep back.

VirtualTeen is a place of learning independence, and sometimes when it comes to the incredibly small things in life, such as an irritating red block, you just grin and bare it. You don't make a fuss, lock a thread or cause an argument out of it. In a way, this reputation system prepares us in our future to learn about social implications in the workplace, and that if something doesn't like what you do, it's tough shit for them. Even though it sounds like a good idea to remove neg rep, that's like saying we won't have people disliking what we do in the real world, and what we say. Besides, just like Sam said, people will probably bitch about not getting rep where they deserve it, and the fact we can neg rep lets us have our say in a short sentence rather than saying it publicly where a thread argument can arise.
