I think tha would be a good idea.

I believe this isn't allowed, incase people put contact info in a VM, then quickly erase it before a mod could notice.

I agree with Brandon, the system would be open to abuse. Perhaps there is an alternative, the only reason I'd have for editing a VM is to fix grammar.

It will be abused (unfortunately). So only way is to ask staff to edit....

As others have said, this wont be implemented. It can be easily abused by people posting contact information or anything else that isn't allowed and edited before a mod can see it.
And by allowing the editing of VMs, I believe that would also enable members to delete heir own PMs, which won't be allowed either.

Permissions would be able to be set for editing and deleting separately -- however this won't be implemented for the reasons listed in the thread.

the only reason I'd have for editing a VM is to fix grammar.
This happened to me before (rather with a mistakable formulation) and I used the report button to request correction.
If this happened to me with an unmoderated VM I'd do the same and additionally PM the user to explain. It's no biggie just human.
I agree the ability to edit could be misused and this should not be changed.

To be honest if I say a blatant spelling error in a message, followed by a user sending a VM saying, "Correction meant this" I'll just edit the first one. Staff aren't robots, we actually read the VMs. :P

:whoops: I didn't want to seem 'not perfect'. So thanks to whoever of you mods did it :)

Well, the reason VMs are moderated are so that either the mods or the user who is sent the PM approves it before it shows up publicly. If it's approved, and the user edits it, the edit they made maybe goes against the rules or something of the sort. Now, if there was a system in place where you could edit the post, and then it goes back into moderation to be approved again, then it would work (I've seen this somewhere before).

That system wouldn't work too well with those of us who don't need their VMs moderated.......

If you want to grant them the ability to edit then they will be able to moderate, edit, and soft delete these messages. Its all tied to one permission -- "Can Manage Messages within Own Profile."
In light of every other reason presented we can't for obvious reasons allow regular members to moderate/approve their own messages.

Huh?
It would only be toggled if the person who is editing their VMs have their VMs moderated.

By editing the permissions for a user group as a whole it gives you the option to allow or disallow them to do each specifically. You can select "yes" or "no" for allowing them to edit as well as delete and manage VMs within their own profiles.

So add a modification to the add on to allow administrators to see an edit history.
