Its getting harder to cope with this as the school year goes by. I am in 10th grade now but I will start explaining from 8th grade and on. Back in 8th grade I didn't care about school at all. I was lazy and completely unfocused; not on task. Every 8th grader takes pre-algebra. With my stupid mind set I of course failed pre-algebra. In fact, my final average was a 62%. A 65% or more is considered passing. Then 9th grade comes along and I had to repeat 8th grade math, the pre-algebra. I matured then and was focused on school completely. I had a drive to get all my work done. I finished pre-algebra the second attempt with an 87%. In 9th grade you're supposed to take Integrated Algebra 1, not pre-algebra. Now I am in Integrated Algebra 1 with all the 9th graders and it makes me look really bad. My peers are in Geometry which is 10th grade math, it makes me look like I failed the regents when I haven't even taken the regents yet, I feel like a stupid idiot who is bad at math, and I am going to be a year behind in math until I graduate college. In fact, I am not even going to make it to Pre-Calculus in my senior year. I am keeping my grades up, I passed with an 84% the first semester. This semester, my current average is an 82%. I am maintaining it well. How should I cope with this though? The school year is more than half over, I have lasted this long but I feel so stupid.

I'm 23 now but when I was in high school I was in a similar situation. I didn't have my act together. I was academically behind.

Now that I am in college I'm an honors student with a 3.8 GPA and have turned things around. My high school GPA was a 2.7.

Don't let the past affect how you feel today. What is done is done. All you can do now is work your butt off and do the best you can do today. You can't let what happened in 8th grade shadow over you forever. The important thing is now you learned from your mistake. You turned your life around and you're making better grades: that's something to be proud of.

Thanks, it is something to be proud. I never really give myself enough credit for really anything. I can't fix the past but shouldn't dwell over it. I'm happy to hear that you got your act together. Thanks for the advice and have a good night.

I agree with Justin but if your serious about making up for your loss oppertunities there are things you may be able to do after all you still have 2yrs before graduation. Most school districts offer classes they can take during the summer and if thats not available look into a community level college for programs that would allow you to get caught up durning the summer. I'm in the 10th grade as well but most of my classes are AP classes and i plan on graduating next year so it can be done. Best place to start is talking with your guidance counselor at your school they may be able to point you in the right direction.

I inquired about taking it last summer. My guidance counselor told me you MUST take the course the previous year. You only take the course over the summer again if you failed that course in the school year. At my high school I should say.

Sounds like your left with little options from your school. Not sure if your school allows it but ours allows you to challenge a course thereby skipping it and receiving credit as if you had sat thru the whole year by taking a exam that test your knowledge and comprehension on the subject matter. That’s how I’m graduating a year early and I’ve already got some college credits.

That's good for you. You should be proud of yourself and so should your family. I know I sound completely sarcastic but I'm not being sarcastic. Well, my school doesn't offer that. Well, I will be one year behind.
