From what I've heard, I have an unusual technique for masturbating.

I use my left hand, and put my palm on the right side of my penis, and... from there, I can get away with a relatively small amount of movement, mostly clenching my hand. It also lets me keep my foreskin held tightly after I cum, so not much mess around me.

It works well if you're wearing loose pants (pajamas, for instance,) since I don't like taking them off. (Someone walks in, you just pull your hands out and act calm, rather than struggling to get them back on before it's too late :B

Anyone else do this, or have an abnormal masturbation technique?

Masturbation is a personal thing so it doesn't really matter if other people do it the same way as long as it works for you. A couple of observations though:

1. Putting the plam of my left hand on the right side of my penis seems a little awkward. If I put my left hand up to my penis the most natural position for me is with my palm in contact with the bottom of my penis and my fingers curled round the right side of it. The next most natural position is with the palm on the stop of my penis and again with my fingers on the right hand side. The hand position you describe is only really comfortable for me if I point my penis over my left leg rather than straight out/up.

2. You should avoid anything that stops your semen from coming out of the hole in the glans of your penis. If you foreskin is loose enough, with enough overhang for the semen to gather in the space between the end of the glans and the end of the foreskin then holding the foreskin closed to contain the mess is probably ok. If in doubt, let it out.
