The little girl walked home alone. Her clothes were old, muddy and worn. The holes in her jeans reminded her how cold it was outside, with the snow slowly trickling down on her head.
She refused to look up, although everyone was looking at her. She watched her old, used, abused and tattered shoes flop down on the ground with each step. She watched her little jacket sway slightly as she walked.
Her eyes, one greyed over with blindness, the other a nice, beautiful shade of green.
Her hair, which enhanced her young beauty, was short-cut, like a little boy's, a blonde, almost white color, with dark brown streaks. In some, it would look bad. Her, it looked beautiful.
Everyone called the little girl ugly. Stupid. Weird. Crazy. They did disgusting things to her. But she always forgave them.
She never once talked back, even when her daddy raped her. She never yelled, even when her mommy hit her. She never argued, even when her brother called her names. She never cried, even when her sister locked her away. The little girl, although raised so brutally, was very quiet, sweet, docile. She never once said anything bad to anyone.
As she grew, her beauty grew too. She got powers beyond what is normal, but she never showed anyone. She knew one day, the people that hurt her would pay for the wrongs. She didn't seek revenge. But she wanted justice.
Now, 16 years old, perhaps she'll get it...
This is the story of Demi Fairchild, the child born with wings.

Chapter 1-
I sit on my bed, scrawling another picture in my sketchbook. I love drawing, it really is fun. The phone rings, and my brother picks it up. He screams the name he created for me, something I don't want to repeat, and I run down the stairs to get it. It's my aunt Angie, a good-hearted, plump lady with black hair and green eyes, like mine.
"Hi!" I say, happy to talk to her.
"Hi sweetie. How are you doing?" She asks.
Auntie Angie knows what's happened. She's been my best friend for years, although she lives in San Francisco.
"I'm alright. Mom and Dad went on a business trip, so it's been Sheldon, Mila and I for the past few days." I say.
"Put Sheldon on the phone again, please hon." She says.
I do, and I guess she yells at Sheldon, because his face is very bright red, and he refuses to look at anyone.
"What did you do?" I ask Angie.
"I told him if he so much as hurts you, and I find out, I'll call the police. Again." She says.
"Cool. So, what do you need?" I ask.
"I just wanted to check up on my favorite niece." She says.
I laugh. "Okay, now I know you really want something."
She laughs. She tells me she would love if I visited over the summer. She has some friends that I would love to meet, and maybe things would be better for me.
I jump at the offer, not caring what anyone else says. I yell at Sheldon, telling him I'm going to San Francisco.
"Dad's gonna hit you hard if you leave without telling them." Sheldon laughs.
I nod, and I tell Angie I have to call my parents. She tells me she can't wait for my visit.
When I call and explain everything to my parents, they laugh and say "I hope she doesn't mind taking care of a demon like you."
I shrug off the insult, tell them goodbye, hang up the phone, and go back upstairs to begin packing.
I sit down on my bed and make a list of things I need- tee-shirts, shorts, shoes, sandals, will I need a dress? Should I go out and buy one? I have money I saved up from doing yard-work, I could go get one. Maybe I'll wait till I get to Aunt Angie's place.
Finally, I'm packed. I'll leave in two days, but I'm so excited! Maybe I'll finally make some friends. I make friends, but they never stick around. I don't know why, but it doesn't always feel so fun.
Anyway, I sit down and finish my drawing. It's of a girl with angel's wings. I draw manga. I listen to soft Dub-step music, my favorite kind. I also listen to Night-Core, techno, and punk rock. I'm indie I guess you could label me.
I hear someone yelling my name from outside. I look out the window, and see Sheldon's friend James. He's a nice guy, and has helped me through the abuse of my brother. I wave, and go outside to meet him.
He hugs me gently, and I hug back.
"How are you?" He asks.
"I'm alright. Loving the nice weather!" I say, dancing slightly in the sun.
He laughs. "Yeah, this summer is so nice. Demi, I have to tell you something."
"Oh, I gotta tell you something too! You go first!" I say, wanting to tell him about my trip.
"My family's sending me to San Francisco." He blurts.
"No flipping way." I say, getting really excited. "I'm gonna go visit my aunt there!"
He laughs. "Oh my life is irony!"
"This is fun!" I say.
"Yeah. Maybe we'll go on the same plane." He nods.
"Yeah. My aunt is paying for everything, so it's gonna be so nice!" I say.
"Mine is called Walton Airways." He says.
"That's the one Angie said I would use."
He laughs again.
Seems like a playing of fates, huh? I don't believe in fate, but this is gonna be fun!
James says he has to go, bids me goodbye, and leaves. James is tall, with dark hair, brown eyes, he wears glasses, and is muscular for being so skinny. I can't help it... He's adorable!
I walk back inside, and pray to God, thanking him for giving me an awesome summer with just my aunt, James, and no Dad.
