I was just wondering what everyone's opinions where of Tony Blair who served as prime minister from 1997-2007, the main part of his election campaign's where the theme of New Labour, New Britain which focused on a massive domestic reform. Now I know that he takes a lot of flack for being involved in the War of terror but I was just wondering do people think he was a succesful Prime Minister. He won three elections so he must have done something right.

Not that I'm not a fan, I just don't know who he is I'm assuming this is UK politics and they rarely get my interest. I guess it's my biased opinion of the Government and distance

I asked my uncle about him and he gave me a look that encouraged me to drop the subject!

I really liked him. Well, now I look back on what he did and his policies, I really like him, but when he first came into power I was 2, so...
I disagree with some of the things he did, but on the whole, I thought he was very good for our country, particularly for education and the NHS. Plus what he did with Northern Ireland and the good friday thing, but no one seems to know about that because for some reason, irish conflict isn't given the attention it should.
He gets too much shit for the thing with iraq, but no prime minister has ever resigned with a gleaming reputation. I think he was the best prime minister we've had since I was born, but maybe that's because that's when the labour party was in it's prime, but I suppose it's the leader that makes that happen. So yes, I would say I liked him.

While I don't know much on UK politics, he is one of like four Prime Ministers I actually know, and he seems to be one of the better ones, I'd be interesting in learning more about him and UK politics in general.

Tony Blair was ahead of his time, I think most people critisise most notably his decision to support the invasion of Iraq. While I'm only stating facts here, I just wonder if he would have succeeded better now rather than then, he had to deal with Britain's responses to terrorism and also foot and mouth disease (Cattle and agriculture).
Overall though, I think we did better as country and I'm most pleased with the repeal of section 28 (The act being repealed was a ban on anything seen as promoting homosexuality in schools) during his time in number 10.

To be honest, I think he was a decent PM.
I suppose I do support the invasion of Iraq, the information given at the time of "weapons of mass destruction" was obviously serious enough to warrant an occupation of the state.
However, it's all fine when everyone can slag him off for going in once we knew that there weren't any "weapons".
Yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

A Journey-his autobiography which covers his '97 election until his depature in '07. Also Alastair Campbell who was his 'direction of commucations' and one of his closest allies released a book called the 'blair years'. Both are really good :)

I saw David Milliband at Newcastle Uni once, I still think Ed is hotter.
But, I tend to support Labour... I might have to buy one of these wretched books
