Hey guys, I have a new technology forum that I'd like to get noticed...the question is, how do I do it? How I can optimize it to make it more user friendly. I really want this one to make it off the ground, because honestly I feel like such a failure when my forums just die :I

What forum software are you using? Could you post a link so I can take a look? One of the best ways to get your forum noticed is to create content that people are going to want to talk about. If you create content that nobody is wanting to talk about then nobody is going to register. It would be a good idea to tag each thread you make as well, just to make it easier for other people to find the content you have created. If you haven't already then you should check out www.theadminzone.com for more in depth information.

Most forums, as subject-oriented they may be, will probably end up failing :/

But, that doesn't mean yours will. Try indexing them with popular search engines, make the UI more user-friendly. Pick a suitable domain name, maybe advertise if you have the money.

Make it look real nice.
Make it functional
Make it clutter free as possible
Register with search engines.
Usually when starting a forum, it can go well, or fail miserably :P

Adapt this quick reply thing, it's so helpful
Make it attractive and easy to navigate
Don't feel obliged to hire staff, forums can be a place where people of the same power can stay on that level with you being the only Admin.

Lastly,

Don't make it shit

:P

Make it really simple to use
Make it look really clean
Quick reply would be awesome :P
And find some ways for people to find out about it

Register your site at DMOZ (http://www.dmoz.org/) and Yahoo! (http://dir.yahoo.com/). The former is frequently crawled by search engines and even has that data returned as results in others (http://www.gigablast.com/).

Do you have a domain or are you using a free domain?
