View Full Version : Criticized for being neutral?

Hey.
So, in school the students run this big debate every year, and this year it's on homosexuality. Ya know, students for and against and all that malarkey. When a kid pulled me in (i homeschool via internet but still maintain normal contact with students) and asked me what I think. I replied 'should I care?', but the students became enraged. They told me I should, but no real reason was given.
So I open it up to you. Is being neither for nor against wrong when it comes to sexuality?

Im not really sure what your talking about though. Is it about gay marriage or sexuality in general? I feel like gay marriage you are either for or against it. When I ask people about it and they say I don't care, they usually mean let them get married why should I care? I can't really answer your question though becUse I don't know what exactly your debating about.

I think there is a difference between apathy and indifference. If you're apathetic, you don't care to have an opinion. If you're indifferent, you simply don't. I think sexuality, like race, is part of society and is something that doesn't need to be dealt with but simply accepted. Now, I am clearly pro-LGBT, but I'm indifferent to the debate because it isn't even a discussion to me.

So, no, I don't think you should be criticized for lacking an opinion.

Just sexuality in general. I don't care really if they get married or if they sleep together or whatever. I really just don't care.

That's a strange debate, I mean "yeah everyone should be gay" is being 'for' homosexuality and i doubt many people believe that! Most supporters of the LGBT community are neutral and just don't care if someone is gay, so I would say your view is perfectly normal.

Ah okay. Well I don't really support, or go against or whatever the rights. I am not really one to care much (I know... Kind of bad in some aspects) so, if they want them, dandy. If people don't want them to, dandy. I just don't want any part of the debate.
And yes. It's strange to have in school. But whatever

Sides. I hate when I have to chose side. It's like a war between pro-homosexuality and con. Sexuality is like a dick, it's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around. We got it. You're gay/lesbian/pan/demi/asexual. And you're proud of it. Okay. You want a cookie now??
Don't get me wrong, I am pro LGBT and I am offended if people get bullied just for their sexuality, I find it perfectly natural and I don't see a reason why people should discuss about it.
People seem to make a lot of fuss about it, they should focus on more important characteristics.

I hate debates, I believe everyone has the right to live their life the way they want to and how they want to. Who am I to have an opinion on how you live your life. I get so pissed when people debate stuff like that, abortions, etc. It's your life, not mine, live the way you want to.

Why should you have to take sides? I accept people for WHO they are, and not what they get up to in the bedroom and with whom.

I watched a film the other day, and this is a quote from it:

Human decency, plus tolerance = peace

If people lived by this, there would be no wars, and no homophobia

Since a few gay kids who know I'm confused call me a hypocrite I am more neutral on gay things, I'll tolerate it but don't support but I don't try to stop it. If you're gay, you're gay, fine I could care less. If you're mean to me? We have an issue.

I sorta feel what you are feeling i guess. I mean, I dont understand why there is even a debate. I mean there are thousands of other species that are homosexual, but only 1 is homophobic, humans. So i just think everyone needs to just min their own buisness and not dictate how other people live. let them love each other and get married and move on with our lives.

I would say there is nothing wrong with that it's your own opinion but I would say it was a little abrupt how you said "should I care" lol :)
