PC game help

I'm not sure if a thread already exists for this or not, so sorry if there is.

So I have some PC games that I want to install onto my machine. the catch is that I want to do it in such a way that i don't need to insert the disc every time because I'd have to use an external drive which annoys me. I tried the custom installation but the only option was the destination folder. I've heard about those no CD patches but I don't think they're safe, or legal. Ideas?

The only real way to do that would be a no-cd patch, the majority are completely safe and I've never had any issues using one before, as for legality I'm not sure if they're legal or not but really, no one is going to hunt you down for using a no-cd patch.
