Tom Hoggins rounds up the latest news and views from the gaming industry. This week: The Last Guardian lives, Wii U's troubled sales but interesting DLC and did Gearbox Software really make Aliens: Colonial Marines?
Was Aliens: Colonial Marines actually developed by Gearbox Software?
Since the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines earlier this week, rumours have begun to emerge that the majority of the game's campaign was not made by official developer Gearbox Software. While it has long been known that Section 8 developer TimeGate Studios were contributing to the game's development (they are credited in the opening scene), it is reported that Colonial Marines is "essentially a TimeGate game".
The rumours that the bulk of Colonial Marines was outsourced came last year from a TexAgs forum post from an apparent ex-Gearbox employee. Under the handle mugwurt the poster wrote "Don't get your hopes up for Colonial Marines. I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total train wreck, going on what, 6 years now? Gearbox isn't even making the game, except for the multiplayer. Primary development was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, which has a less than stellar past."
